In this guide, we shall go over how to beat the Chromatic Demineur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33, an optional boss in the game.
The Continent in Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is a sprawling region with life around every corner. The only issue is that life out there is consistently trying to take yours. There are threats all over the massive map, but none may seem as frustrating to deal with as the Chromatic Demineur.
The Chromatic Demineur is found on the Continent, directly north of the Stone Quarry in the game. What makes this boss frustrating is that it is a floating boss, meaning it will dodge most of the attacks you dish out. Furthermore, it can absorb fire to heal itself, so the right attack strategy is a must for this fight. If you’re struggling against the Chromatic Demineur, we’re here to help.

How To Beat Chromatic Demineur in Clair Obscur Expedition 33

The Chromatic Demineur is weak to Ice but will absorb Fire to heal. With this in mind, we highly recommend bringing in ice-based weapons. The boss is also a floating boss, which means you have to rely on free aim and counterattacks if you wish to deal damage consistently. Therefore, Pictos/Lumina, such as the Augmented Counterattack, are a must for this fight.
As far as attack patterns go, there are only a few you need to watch for. The first is a Smash Attack. In this 3-hit combo, the boss raises its weapon, lifting it in the air, before bringing it down to hit you. You’ll hear a whoosh sound effect before each swing. Use this audio cue to parry the attack and counterattack.
The second attack you need to watch for is the Fire Wave. In this, the boss raises its hand to the air, collecting fire, and then launches a powerful wave at you. To parry, keep a close eye on the boss’s hands. Press the parry button as soon as it begins a downward arc. Alternatively, keep track of the same whoosh sound effect for an audio cue.
The final attack is the Inner Fire attack. The boss raises its weapon, charging it with fire and smashing the ground. You can parry this as soon as you see the boss absorb the fire completely. Parry, counterattack, and free aim whenever you can to beat this boss.
