In this guide, we go over how you can upgrade units in Monster Train 2. Regularly upgrading them is key to protecting the Pyre Heart.

The deck-building roguelike game Monster Train 2 forces you to constantly improve your units so they can take down the endless waves of enemies while defending your Pyre Heart. Since it is extremely tricky to heal any damage the Pyre Heart suffers, you need to prepare your units for increasingly challenging enemy encounters through the three floors of the train. So, in this guide, we’ll explore how you can upgrade units in Monster Train 2, ensuring they perform brilliantly against enemies.
How To Upgrade Units in Monster Train 2

You can upgrade the stats of your units in a variety of ways. For instance, finding certain artifacts will boost the health and attack stats of your units. Also, some support units can help improve the HP and Valor of your other units. However, none of these offer a permanent increase to a unit’s stats. If you are looking for longer-lasting upgrades, you’ll need to head to the Merchant of Steel nodes that appear along the way. You’ll always find such a node in the next room after finishing the first battle.
All other Merchant of Steel nodes will spawn at randomized locations. While progressing, you can generally expect to run into four to five such nodes. You can check where the nodes are by opening your map once you start a run. When you interact with one of these nodes, the shop menu will open, allowing you to purchase from four available upgrades. The following table lists all of the upgrade options that are present in the game.
