The Weird Route is a disturbing storyline in Deltarune that delves into dark themes, meta-storytelling, and mild psychological horror. You can begin the Weird Route in Chapter 2, and it will trigger a unique sequence of events in the following chapters. The most disturbing part of the Weird Route so far takes place during Chapter 4.

How To Start the Weird Route in Deltarune Chapter 4
To begin the Weird Route in Chapter 4, you must have already initiated the Weird Route in Chapters 2 and 3. You can start the Chapter 4 Weird Route cutscene when you are at Noelle’s house. Head into Noelle’s room on the upper floor and investigate the guitar. Krisl drops to the ground and pulls his soul (represented by a red heart) out. He walks into the hallway with it and thrusts it into a drawer when Noelle calls out to him.
Noelle invites Kris into the adjoining room to talk about a moment they shared. Kris throws the soul into a gift box before following her into the room. As the soul, push aside the large gift box and enter the air vents. Keep heading straight until you hit a dead end, then turn left.
The soul will watch from the vents as Noelle tells Kris about her dream. When she says, “Kris, can I… say something else?” the soul appears inside the room. Guide the soul back into Kris and choose the following dialogue options:
- When Noelle asks who is going to hear them, pick “Me.”
- Noelle becomes terrified that someone is hearing her thoughts; choose “I heard.”
- When she tests you by asking questions, choose any option.
- Noelle accuses you of lying; pick either option about Noelle becoming stronger.
- Keep picking “Equip” and “Proceed.”
When the sequence is over, Kris heads over to the bathroom in a black rage. He takes out the soul, throws it in the trash can, and kicks it repeatedly.
Later, at the church, when Ralsei asks you what Susie might be praying about, choose “Seems unnecessary.” When she asks you to close your eyes, pick “Don’t.” Then, she says you could think of someone else. Choose “Think of Noelle.” A red dot will appear on-screen, and say “Thank You.” Before the chapter ends, we see Kris lying on his bed with the soul locked inside a cage.

What Happens in Deltarune Chapter 4 Weird Route?
Deltarune Chapter 4’s Weird Route is a very dark, thought-provoking, and emotionally charged part of the storyline. We see Kris struggling to assert his will over the soul, which is controlled by you, the player. At the same time, he tries to protect Noelle, but fails.
In the Kris and Noelle couch scene, he tries to warn her to stay quiet about her story lest you, the player, hear her. But when she asks him a question, the soul teleports into the room. As Noelle begins to realize that someone else is controlling Kris and that they can read her thoughts, she becomes terrified.
After that, Kris is forced to pull out the thorn and stab Noelle with it to disintegrate her soul, which is represented by the red petals falling away until only a red dot is left. Kris is enraged at what you have made him do and throws the soul into the trash can before kicking it.
When you force Kris to think of Noelle in the church, we see what is left of her soul, thanking him for thinking of her. These sequences of the Weird Route are highly subjective and open to interpretation, with other perspectives and deeper meanings possibly lurking under the surface.
