Characters in Mario Kart World have four stats. They are as follows:
- Speed – Determines the max speed of the vehicle.
- Acceleration – Determines the rate of acceleration.
- Weight – Affects vehicle collisions.
- Handling – Determines how sharply the vehicle can turn.

Speed
The Speed stat determines the max speed that your character can reach. While it is an important stat, it is not the be-all and end-all of the game. It is mostly useful during long stretches of straight road. Generally, heavyweight characters tend to have higher max speeds.
Acceleration
Acceleration determines how fast you can reach your top speed. This stat lets you get faster in less time and recover more quickly from being slowed or stopped by hazards and items. As a result, Acceleration is arguably the most important stat.
Weight
Weight affects the outcome of collisions between vehicles. Heavier vehicles are less affected by collisions and can knock away lighter vehicles. Although it is not that useful in general, it becomes quite valuable in game modes with more players, where collisions are fast and frequent.
Handling
Handling determines the precision of your turns and how well you can control your drifts. It is very useful on more complex tracks where sharp and precise turns are common. Because of this, this stat is one of the best overall.
