The Scientist is the most important Alter in the game, as he is directly related to the Alters Tech Tree. He branches off from the Technician’s life by getting a PhD instead. From mining to base upgrades and more, the Scientist helps you in every field. One of the main reasons to get the Scientist at the beginning is because he is directly related to the game’s progress in Act 1.
Miner

A branch off from the Technician’s life, the Miner will help you farm resources easily from the start. He mines metals 50% more efficiently than the rest of the Alters and is helpful in your base building and upgrading efforts early on. He is also fairly easy to unlock, by choosing to pay his mother’s bills rather than focus on further education and career.
Botanist

Your Alters will not appreciate eating the same food forever. For this reason, raw food can be made using the Organics Tree. The Botanist gives you 100% efficiency while farming in the Greenhouse. The Worker branches off the Refiner, and provides 50% more efficiency while crafting items in the workshop. He becomes particularly useful when you require suit batteries and rad filters. Even while you are out exploring, he will continue crafting the items you assign. This is incredibly useful in the late game, as you will need to craft many new items daily just to manage the base and keep up with its operations.
Shrink

The Shrink requires you to unlock the Doctor first and helps your Alters with their mental health. He is valuable because he keeps the Alters happy. As you progress in the game, you’ll have more Alters, and most of them carry their own pasts and mental struggles. This can hinder their efficiency, slowing down your progress. The Shrink helps maintain their mental health and keeps them happy in the Contemplation Room.
