If you’ve just jumped into Roblox Dig, you’ll quickly realize there’s more to it than simply hitting the ground with a shovel. While the goal is to dig up treasures and sell them for cash, the game has a few mechanics worth understanding early on. This guide will help you get the basics down so you can start making progress fast.

The Basics of Dig Roblox

At its core, Dig is all about collecting valuable items buried beneath the surface. You dig them up, sell them at the shop, and then use the money to buy better gear. The better your tools, the better your chances of finding rare items.

To start digging, find a patch of land and click your left mouse button. A mini digging interface appears at the bottom of your screen. Your goal is to drain the progress bar fully. However, here’s the catch—you also have a heart bar that drops over time.

If the heart bar empties, your Dig fails, and the item disappears. So, how do you avoid that?

You need to time your hits. When the moving bar crosses over the “dirt” zone, click again. You’ll either land a normal strike (which helps but comes with a short cooldown) or a strong strike, which resets your heart bar and lets you hit again instantly. Strong strikes happen when you click in the darker center section.
It takes practice, but once you get the timing right, you’ll be pulling treasures out like a pro.

What’s in the Ground?

As you dig, you’ll uncover various types of treasure. Each item you find has different traits that affect how much it’s worth:

  • Type: The kind of object, like a fossil, gear, or ancient relic.
  • Age: Older items are generally more valuable.
  • Rarity: The rarer it is, the harder it is to dig up, and the more rewarding.
  • Mutations: Some items have special qualities like being shiny, large, or transparent. These often boost the selling price significantly.

Tools: Shovels and Their Stats

Your shovel determines how effective you are at digging. The better the stats, the easier it becomes to land strong strikes and unearth rare items.

You start with the Wooden Shovel, but you can upgrade it by visiting Rocky in Fox Town. Some early-game shovels you’ll come across include:

  • Training Shovel: Balanced, with better control.
  • Toy Shovel: Faster with a bit more luck.
  • Copper Shovel: Stronger but not very lucky.
  • Rock Shovel: Useful against bosses and rocky terrain.
  • Lucky Shovel: Decent all-around with good luck potential.

Each has strengths and weaknesses, so test them and see what suits your playstyle. If you’re ready to dive deeper, check out our Abyssal Shovel guide for more advanced tips.

Charms and Their Effects

Subsequently, Charms are passive items that give small stat boosts. You can equip them for better luck, increased endurance, or more carrying capacity.

Here are a few examples:

  • Training Glove: Boosts both luck and endurance.
  • Lucky Bell: Focuses solely on increasing luck.
  • Rock Pounder: Better for tough surfaces and boss damage.
  • Vision Goggles: Lets you preview the digging pattern before striking.

Dig may look simple, but once you get the hang of the rhythm-based digging and learn how to gear up effectively, it becomes a lot more fun. Focus on improving your timing, upgrading your tools, and experimenting with charms to find your ideal setup. With each dig, you’ll be closer to unearthing something valuable.
