In this guide, we’ll explore some of the Helldivers 2 beginner tips and tricks, now that the game is set to launch on the Xbox consoles.

Helldivers 2 is finally arriving on the Xbox Series S and X on August 26, 2025. It has been a long wait for Microsoft console owners, as the game has been available to PS5 and Windows players for over a year. So, it’s high time that Xbox owners get the opportunity to become Helldivers and join in on the fight.
However, Helldivers 2 can be quite challenging and brutal for the unprepared. So, if you’re waiting to sink your teeth into the game from next month, understanding a few things beforehand will help you become formidable on the battlefield. In this guide, we will discuss some of the Helldivers 2 beginner tips and tricks that will come in handy.
Helldivers 2 Beginner Tips and Tricks
The following are five of the most important aspects of Helldivers 2, mastering which should make you a better player and allow you to contribute more during combat.
Understand the Difference Between Major and Minor Orders

In Helldivers 2, your orders are divided into Major and Minor ones. You can check which type of order you are about to follow before heading out on a mission. Simply pull up the information from the mission screen on the bottom right. Major Orders are missions that the entire Helldivers 2 community is trying to achieve. For instance, liberating a planet from the rule of Tyranids is often a Major Order. Upon successfully achieving the goals of a Major Order and winning it, the entire community receives some form of reward, such as currency.
On the other hand, Minor Orders are more party specific goals that your squad needs to achieve. For instance, taking down five Charger foes is an example of a Minor Order. Make sure you never disregard or neglect Minor Orders, since completing them earns you Medals. You can then use the Medals to unlock new gear and items.
Dedicate One Slot To Support Weapons

You can have three weapons at any one time in Helldivers 2. The first two slots are for the Primary and the Secondary weapons. The third slot is for a Support Weapon, which cannot be equipped before the mission begins. You can get one from a fallen team member during the mission or out in the world. However, both these options require you to get lucky.
A more certain way of getting hold of a Support Weapon is to equip a Support Weapon Stratagem. Having a Support Weapon with you at all times can be extremely helpful since most of these guns are highly powerful and can help you take down the larger foes you come across.
Grab All Samples You Can Find
The next beginner tip is about gathering Samples, which is one of the rarest resources in the game. You’ll find them from Sample Nodes during missions. However, simply grabbing them isn’t enough, as you can lose the samples if you die during the mission before extraction.
If you die, another member of your squad can pick it up before extracting it to avoid losing it. All Samples that you have during extraction will be shared with teammates. Also, playing on higher difficulty settings will allow your team to come across and extract rarer samples.
Samples are important because they will enable you to upgrade your ship in Helldivers 2. You can upgrade certain areas of the ship, which opens up newer Strategems that you can receive from that specific ship area during missions. You can call in air strikes or cannon attacks from the ship to take down certain stronger enemies.

Beware of Friendly Fire
Helldivers 2 features a friendly fire system, which means you could damage or take out a member of your team if you’re not careful during combat. If you take out a team member, it will hurt your chances of completing the mission objectives and extracting successfully. Not to mention, taking down a squad mate could cause some rift between you and your friends.
So, even if it’s amusing the first few times, in the long run, make sure you check your targets before firing. Moreover, constant communication between teammates can help when trying to avoid friendly fire.
Complete All Missions Under an Operation
Operations are several missions that are grouped. You will take on each of the missions in an Operation individually, and completing each mission will earn you Medals. However, each subsequent mission under an Operation earns you progressively more Medals for completion.
For instance, completing the first mission might earn you two Medals, while completing the next two missions might give you 4 and 6 Medals, respectively. So, make sure to complete an Operation and all its missions before moving on to another one.
