Everything you need to know about Ghost of Yotei’s pre-load schedule and details on its possible file size on the PS5.

To call Ghost of Yotei one of 2025’s most anticipated releases will be an understatement. Given the lineage of the “Ghost” franchise alone, Ghost of Yotei has a ton of hype and excitement surrounding it, and for good reasons. It’s a game that is meant to be a follow-up to one of PS4’s most revered exclusives, Ghost of Tsushima.
Furthermore, it’s also one of PS5’s biggest exclusives, which don’t release all that often nowadays. All these factors, combined with the natural excitement of players surrounding anything Samurai/Shinobi-related, make Ghost of Yotei one of this year’s biggest releases. And with the game’s launch inching ever closer, we finally have details on its pre-load schedule.
Here’s everything you need to know about Ghost of Yotei’s pre-load and expected file size on the PS5.

When Can You Pre-Load Ghost of Yotei?

Ghost of Yotei is scheduled to be released on October 2, 2025. However, if you pre-order the game, you can pre-load it from September 25, 2025, onwards. Essentially, you’re getting a week to get the game downloaded to your console. This is a great thing, especially for players who don’t have access to fast internet or are tied to a monthly data cap.
You can essentially download the game over a week, and keep it ready to play when it releases on October 2. Unlike on PC (Steam), where you have to wait for the pre-loaded files to unpack, on PS5, pre-loaded games can be played as soon as they’re officially released. Most PS5 games usually release at midnight, local time.
That should hold true for Ghost of Yotei as well. As such, if you keep the game pre-loaded ahead of time, you can jump into the action right when it unlocks. Do note that in some cases, you might have to download a day-one update for an already pre-loaded game.
Such instances, especially for PlayStation’s first-party games, are rare, but not impossible. For instance, back in 2019, Days Gone received a day-one update that players needed to download as soon as the game unlocked.
However, these instances are rare, and most PlayStation games are playable even without a day-one update.
Ghost of Yotei File Size

PlayStation and Sucker Punch Productions have yet to reveal any details on Ghost of Yotei’s expected file size on the PS5. However, based on past first-party releases on the console as well as Ghost of Tsushima’s Director’s Cut, we can speculate that the upcoming title’s file size will be somewhere around the ballpark of 70-100 GB.
Ghost of Yotei features a bigger map than Tsushima, with more points of interest. Furthermore, the game is targeting 4K resolution right out of the bat, which by default increases texture size, and as a result, the overall file size.
