Hollow Knight Silksong: Pinmaster’s Oil Wish Guide

The Pinmaster’s Oil Wish is one of the mid-game Wishes you can acquire in Hollow Knight Silksong, and it is a total hassle to complete. This quest sends you on the search for Pale Oil lost in the Citadel on behalf of Pinmaster Plinney. While the task may seem simple, the Citadel is a vast location, and finding the Pale Oil is akin to searching for a needle in a haystack.

To make matters worse, you can’t afford to skip out on this quest either, as it is necessary to unlock upgrades for Hornet’s Needle. This is one of the more frustrating quests in the game, and if you’re having any trouble with it, this guide is for you.

How To Start the Pinmaster’s Oil Wish in Hollow Knight Silksong

You acquire the Pinmaster’s Oil Wish by simply talking to Pinmaster Plinney in Bellhart. After lifting the curse plaguing Bellhart, head to the upper levels of the main Bellhart hub to find the Pinmaster. Talk to him, and he will upgrade your weapon for you. He’ll then offer to upgrade your weapon further, but to do so, he’ll need oil. This will kick off the Pinmaster’s Oil Wish, and your hunt for Pale Oil shall begin.

All Pale Oil Locations in Hollow Knight Silksong 

There are two ways to get Pale Oil in Hollow Knight Silksong. The first way is to find it in the Whispering Vault in the Citadel. To get here, start off at the Cogwork Core and then head in the general top-right direction to enter the Whispering Vault. 

Once you’re in here, make your way to the second biggest room towards the west. Inside here, you have to go halfway up and take the exit on the left. Then, aim for the top left corner of this room. You’ll find a ton of metal cages blocking your way, but you can hit them to clear a path. You’ll find a lever at the very end. Hit this lever to gain access to the Choral Chambers. You’ll find the Pale Oil here. 

The second way of getting the Pale Oil involves completing the Great Taste of Pharloom quest in the game. Complete the quest and return to the Choral Chambers to talk to Mergwin. He will then hand you the Pale Oil.
