In The First Descendant, characters are your classes, each possessing unique skills, passives, and ultimate abilities. You have three base game characters: Lepic, Viessa, and Ajax. However, you can unlock more characters like Yujin by researching and crafting them as you progress.
The First Descendant class system resembles games like Destiny 2 and Warframe. You will have three standard abilities with cooldowns based on their power. You can also use multiple guns and accessories to develop your build. Furthermore, each class has its pros and cons and optimal usage. In this First Descendant guide, we will describe how to play the Yujin character, how to unlock him, and who would enjoy this class playstyle.
Should you play Yujin in The First Descendant?
Yujin fulfills the role of healer in The First Descendant and will likely be the first choice for anyone interested in playing a support role. However, while the basic idea of ‘heal the group’ is foundational to Yujin, his abilities can also produce a wide array of beneficial effects. A debuff weakens enemies, an Accelerant effect increases ally attack, Immunity protects allies from debuffs, and more. A skilled player will be able to weave these abilities skillfully to both protect and boost their team.
Who is Yujin? – Story
Yujin began his career as a doctor at Albion’s only civilian hospital but was pulled into the military by his mother, who had submitted an application on his behalf. A doctor herself, she did not like her son’s sometimes dismissive and quick-tempered attitude. Both now serving in the Medical Corps, they would often be at odds over treatment and the amount of effort that Yujin put into saving hopeless-looking cases.
Yujin regretted their arguments and one day resolved to apologize, but she died while heading to the battlefield to treat a new wave of Vesper casualties. Losing his mother was crushing, for he had always loved her despite their arguments. He rushed to find his mother on the battlefield but was unable to heal her wounds before she died. Her last word implored him to do everything he could to treat all of his patients until their final moments.
Thus, Yujin was filled with new-found resolve. When Gley returned from the experiments the Vulgus had subjected her to, Yugin did everything he could to treat it. He sustained injuries as she struggled, but when he finally managed to calm her down, his healing Arche awoke.
How to Play Yujin – Character Gameplay
Most of Yujin’s abilities are meant to benefit his teammates – only his ultimate will provide him with self-healing. This makes gameplay with Yujin more risky, as you will need to be mindful of your positioning because he lacks personal defensive buffs. Ideally, you would pair him with a tank like Kyle or Ajax, which would greatly boost Yujin’s defense and thus increase the team’s strength overall.
Area Damage and Single-Target Damage: Yujin is a pure healer; the only benefit you’ll get to damage is using drones for increased ATK. However, his skill types are singular and fusions, which is important for weapon selection.
Movement and Speed: Sadly, Yujin doesn’t have any movement-enhancing abilities.
Bosses and Ultimates: On bosses, you want to rotate your drones and healing skills based on cooldown and need. Don’t fire off two similar skills; wait for one drone to dissipate, then fire a second. But by the time the second skill is completed, the first is likely to be off cooldown. Chain them together back to back to get the highest uptime possible.
Defenses and Survival Tips: Yujin is highly survivable; use Restructure Serum first to increase defense and rebuff an enemy with Allergy.
How to Unlock Yujin in The First Descendant?
Unlocking Yujin will likely work the same for other characters in The First Descendant, where you must research or purchase him from the store. If you want to buy the character with real money Yujin will likely cost 600 Caliber, which is the premium currency in the game. However, he should also be available to craft. We don’t know all the individual pieces that will make up the larger components, but we’ll add these details later.
To craft Yujin you will likely need:
- Yujin Enhanced Cells
- Yujin Stabilizer
- Yujin Spiral Catalyst
- Yujin Code
Yujin Passive and Active Skills
All characters in The First Descendant have one passive skill, three standard skills, and one ultimate skill to choose from. When you play as the Yujin character in the First Descendant, you must understand the basics of his class and available skills.
- Passive skills: Passive buffs and bonuses are automatically applied or under certain conditions.
- Active and Ultimate skills: These are activated by a player (effects on demand) and vary by character. Each character has unique skills to match their role and playstyle.
Passive Skill
Stop Overreacting – Significantly reduces the time to rescue allies. Targets rescued by Yujin increase to Max HP for a certain period of time.
- Usage – This passively only benefits when an ally is downed, and you lift them up.
Active Skills
Solidarity Healing – Summons a Recovery Drone that attaches to allies to heal them. Recovers target and increases their ATK through an Accelerant effect upon dismissal.
- Usage – Target an ally to heal them and boost their overall damage. This should be your most used ability, and if playing with others, try to boost allies damage or heal constantly.
Restructure Serum – Fires a Restructure Serum forward, decreasing DEF and inflicting Allergy. When attacking enemies with Allergy, heals nearby allies and grants additional healing to allies who kill the enemy.
- Usage – You can inflict Allergy, which then heals allies attacking Allergy. Therefore, this is your primary ability to use on a tough target, and allies are rewarded for focusing on targeting it down. Moreover, defense will increase, so fire this first in tough fights.
Stimulant Spray – Grants Stimulation to allies. While Stimulation is active, incoming DMG is reduced, and recovery is received when Stimulation ends.
- Usage – Another defensive skill that you can change together with Solidarity Healing to save allies.
Ultimate Skill
Hyperreactive Healing Ground – Heals self and allies, granting Purification and Immunity to remove and prevent debuffs. Additional recovery is based on the number of allies and enemies within range. Yujin is granted the Hyper Activity effect, increasing his ATK and skill power.
- Usage – Save this for a panic button or a boss fight where allies are taking damage.
