Everything you need to know about how to defeat the dual Pyramid Head boss in Silent Hill 2 Remake, best strategies, weapons, and more.
The dual Pyramid Head boss is among the final encounters in Silent Hill 2 Remake. It is canonically the second-last boss fight in the game. After defeating the dual Pyramid Head boss, you get to progress to the finale as well as the final boss of Silent Hill 2. However, as is the case with any end-game boss in a survival-horror game or video games in general, the dual Pyramid Head boss is a force to be reckoned with. Not only is it one of the toughest encounters in the entire game, but it also symbolizes the tipping point of protagonist James Sunderland’s broken psyche. And to make matters worse, you’re not confronting a single Pyramid Head, but two of them.
Structurally, the boss fight is quite similar to the very first Pyramid Head encounter in the game, i.e., in the Wood Side Apartments. However, the battle is made significantly more challenging and complicated by the inclusion of two Pyramid Heads, who possess a similar level of aggression. Furthermore, both bosses can attack at the same time, which can easily catch you off guard. Also, the Pyramid Heads are quite resistant to stagger, even against a Shotgun blast. However, there’s a really easy way to defeat the dual Pyramid Head boss.
Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to defeat the dual Pyramid Head boss in Silent Hill 2 Remake.
What weapons to use for the dual Pyramid Head boss in Silent Hill 2
For the dual Pyramid Head boss, the best weapons to use are the Steel Pipe and the Rifle. The Shotgun is also useful, but it doesn’t deal nearly as much damage as the Rifle does. Furthermore, since the arena where you fight the Pyramid Heads is quite small, aiming with the Rifle won’t be much of an issue. It’s best to keep the Handgun holstered for this boss fight. The Handgun isn’t going to do much damage to the Pyramid Heads. Also, it’s best to save the Handgun bullets for the final boss encounter. Also, if you’re low on ammo, you can choose to not fight the Pyramid Heads as well. Much like the very first Pyramid Head encounter in Silent Hill 2 Remake, not fighting the Pyramid Heads is a perfectly viable option.
However, if you choose to stay passive in this boss fight, it will end up prolonging the encounter significantly. Lastly, using the Steel Pipe is a perfectly viable option as well. Given the slow walking speed of the Pyramid Heads, you can easily kite behind them for a quick hit or two using the Steel Pipe. Also, if you want to preserve ammunition for the game’s finale, it’s best to stick to the Steel Pipe. If you’re in New Game+ and have unlocked the Chainsaw, you can use it to easily defeat the Pyramid Heads in just a couple of hits.
Tips to defeat the dual Pyramid Head boss in Silent Hill 2 Remake
That said, here are a few tips that should help you easily defeat the dual Pyramid Head boss in Silent Hill 2 Remake:
- Always try to stay at either the back or to the left side of the Pyramid Head. The boss usually attacks directly in front of it, and staying to its sides helps avoid most of its attacks fairly easily.
- The Pyramid heads have two main attacks: a spear lunge and a spear throw. Both these attacks require two consecutive dodges to avoid.
- Perfect dodge is the key to this boss fight. It allows you to counter using your own attacks almost immediately after a dodge. However, if you’re not comfortable with your perfect dodge timings, do two consecutive dodges. That way, you can avoid getting hit.
Once defeated, the Pyramid Heads drop the Scarlet Egg and Rust-colored Egg. Both these items are required for the main story progression and are not missable. There’s also some Handgun and Shotgun ammunition pickup scattered across the boss arena.
