How did Kibutsuji Muzan become a demon in Demon Slayer? Everything you need to know about the Demon King’s origins in the story
Kibutsuji Muzan is the main antagonist in the Demon Slayer anime and manga series. He was first introduced in season 1 of the show when Tanjiro and Nezuko were in Asakusa. Many anime-only fans seemed to have one question in mind – how did Kibutsuji Muzan become a demon in Demon Slayer? Muzan was born during the Heian era, and he had a seemingly incurable disease. His heart stopped on multiple occasions when he was in his mother’s womb and he was deemed a stillborn.
He was frail and he was constantly sick, which led to many doctors attempting to cure him. There was one doctor in particular who nearly managed to do it. Muzan didn’t see any improvement and in a fit of rage, and he killed the doctor. His condition improved but he felt the constant urge to feed on human flesh and the effect of sunlight was lethal to him. The incomplete medication led to Muzan becoming a demon and thus began the journey of Demon Slayer’s prime antagonist.
Is Muzan the First Demon in Demon Slayer?
Yes, Kibutsuji Muzan became the first-ever demon in the anime and manga series. As stated earlier, Muzan became a demon because of the incomplete medication that the Heian doctor administered. The Demon King realized that the medication contained an ingredient that was rare and it could be the solution to negate the effects of the sunlight. The ingredient in question was the Blue Spider Lily.
Ever since he became a demon, Muzan continued on his quest to find the Blue Spider Lily. However, the issue with this flower was that it only bloomed for two to three days in places where sunlight was abundant. Therefore, the Demon King failed to find this ingredient which could have potentially given him true immortality in the show.
Who Defeated Kibutsuji Muzan?
This is a question that requires a deep dive into the manga series since the answer lies in the final few chapters of the series. It wasn’t just one person who defeated the Demon King. It took the combined efforts of all the demon hunters who were present on the battlefield as well as the Hashira to defeat him. The price paid by the Demon Slayer Corps was massive since Giyu Tomioka and Sanemi Shinazugawa were the only remaining Hashira in the series. Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Kanao also managed to stay alive during the series.
All the demon hunters directed their attacks towards Muzan and fought till the sun rose. When the sun claimed Muzan’s life, he injected all of his blood into Tanjiro in the hopes that his will would be carried by the demon that conquered the sun. However, Kanao Tsuyuri’s swift actions saved everyone from demon Tanjiro’s attack by reverting him to his human form. Shinobu Kocho entrusted a vial of her medicine to Kanao should the need arise. All members of the Demon Slayer Corps present on the battlefield fought till the sun came up, which finally led to his demise.
How Does Muzan Turn People Into Demons?
As stated earlier, Muzan was the first-ever demon in the entire series. It is also important to note that every other demon that was introduced in the series subsequently was a human being at first. They encountered Muzan who managed to turn them into demons. He has a direct influence on the creation of some of the most powerful demons. This begs the question – how does Muzan turn people into demons?
Muzan gives his blood to the human who desires it. If the body is strong enough to accept it, the person transforms into a demon. If the physical body is too weak, it could result in their death instantly. The concentration of Muzan’s blood in one’s body is a direct indicator of their strength. The Upper Moon demons have far higher concentration of Muzan’s blood in their body which gives them advanced Blood Demon Art abilities as well. The concentration of Muzan’s blood paired with the number of humans that they’ve consumed increases their demonic powers.
Is Muzan the Strongest Demon in Demon Slayer?
Yes, Kibutsuji Muzan is the strongest demon in the series, and there isn’t a single demon that comes close with respect to his combat abilities. As mentioned earlier, the concentration of Muzan’s blood in a demon’s body is a direct indicator of how strong they are. Naturally, there isn’t a single demon who has a higher concentration of Muzan’s blood than the Demon King himself.
Another reason why Muzan is a tricky opponent to deal with is the sheer number of vital organs he has. Most demons have been shown to have just one heart and one brain in their body. However, Muzan had a total of seven hearts and five brains. This means the demon hunters would have to aim for all 12 vital points in the body. An interesting fact that one should know is that the Breath of the Sun was developed in a specific way. It had 13 forms in total. The first 12 forms targeted each and every vital organ while the 13th form was just a combination of all 12 previous forms performed in succession.
