Status ailments in Metaphor ReFantazio affect your performance in combat and can put you at a disadvantage if not cured.
Metaphor ReFanatazio is a spiritual successor to Persona, and nowhere is this reflected more than in the game’s flashy (yet deeply intricate) combat system. The turn-based battle system puts you in charge of your fate and requires extensive planning and strategy. This strategy includes keeping tabs on status ailments in the midst of battle, which may steer the wheel against you if not dealt with.
In this guide, we shall go over Status Ailments in Metaphor ReFantazio and how you can deal with them.
All Status Ailments and Cures
Status ailments are debuffs that can affect your performance in battle. Metaphor ReFantazio features two types of status ailments: Physical and Mental, each affecting a different facet of your combat skills. Use the Patra healer skill to cure all these status ailments. You can also cure the status ailments by acquiring specific healing items across the world. However, note that you cannot cure some of these ailments with items alone and will need to rely on Patra skills.
Mental Ailments
| Ailment | Effect | Cure |
| Anxiety | The character affected is unable to use Archetype skills. The enemy will also not use a Turn icon if they attack the affected character. | Use a Soothing Sweetbun. |
| Charm | You will have no control over the character. The character will attack on their own and can randomly attack both enemies and allies. | Use a Slapstick Fan. |
| Daze | Attack Hit rate is reduced. | (No item) |
| Forget | The character forgets how to use Archetype skills. | (No item) |
| Rage | The character affected has increased attack power and takes increased damage as well. You can only use weapon attacks. | Use a Tranquilliser |
| Sleep | Your character will fall asleep and will be vulnerable to critical hits. | Use a Thrilling Tintinnabulator |
| Stun (only for enemies) | Stunned enemies miss a turn. | (No item) |
Physical Ailments
| Ailment | Effect | Cure |
| Burn | The character takes additional burn damage after taking a hit. | Use a Fermis Ointment |
| Frostbite | Attack damage is reduced. | (No item) |
| Hex | The character takes half the damage they inflict. Resistance to dark and other status ailments is also reduced. | Use a Purified Teacake |
| Malady | Your character stats are reduced, and your HP/MP bars shrink. | Use a Ailment Absolution |
| Paralysis | Increased chance of failing an action. | Use a Vitamin Relaxant |
