How strong is Ryomen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen? While the King of Curses made his first appearance in the anime’s premiere, it did not take him much time to establish himself as Jujutsu Kaisen’s antagonist. The anime saw him having a quick brawl against the Strongest Sorcerer of the modern age Satoru Gojo, however, such a small brawl wasn’t enough for you fans to determine the full extent of the villain’s powers.
While Satoru Gojo claimed that he would win in a fight against Sukuna, there is no way to prove or disprove the declaration unless you wait for the anime to adapt their fight or read the manga. Ryomen Sukuna is so strong that everyone regards him as the King of Curses. While he is still strong after reincarnation, back in the Golden Age of Jujutsu, his strength terrified people. However, some were also in awe at his accomplishments and named him the most powerful sorcerer of all time. As explained by the manga, one of his most notorious feats was slaughtering both the Sun, Moon, and Stars Squad and the Five Empty Generals. They were the most elite generals of the Fujiwara clan. Hence, killing them left authorities in Japan so terrified that they held festivities to celebrate Sukuna’s honor.
As time passed, he was regarded as the “Strongest Sorcerer in History” and the “King of Curses.” He was so strong that when Yuji Itadori asked Satoru Gojo who would win in a fight between them, even the Strongest Sorcerer of the modern age claimed that he would win after facing some difficulties. Is Sukuna the Strongest Character in Jujutsu Kaisen?
Yes, Ryomen Sukuna is the strongest character in Jujutsu Kaisen. While fans used to argue about this question in the past, the manga’s final story arc proved that the King of Curses was unrivaled in strength. As you must remember, at the start of the series, Satoru Gojo stated that while he would have trouble fighting Sukuna, he would win. This declaration used to be the key statement that became the root of all arguments amongst the fans, but it was later proved wrong.
As seen in the series, in the fight between Sukuna and Gojo, the King of Curses emerged as the victor. This meant that he was the strongest character in the series. Although Sukuna was finally defeated, he also consecutively fought 12 sorcerers. But is Sukuna really stronger than Gojo? Didn’t Mahoraga assist him in the Shinjuku Showdown, making it a 2-on-1 fight? While that is true, there is good reason to believe that Sukuna is far stronger than Gojo.
Sukuna vs. Gojo: Who’s stronger?
Ryomen Sukuna is stronger than Satoru Gojo. The Shinjuku Showdown saw Ryomen Sukuna use Mahoraga’s adaptability to switch his Cleave’s target from Gojo to the space around him. Hence, despite Gojo having his Infinity up and ready to protect him, Sukuna managed to bisect him by cutting the space around him, effectively cutting Infinity and Gojo’s torso in half.
While you could think that Sukuna cheated to get his win, you should remember that he was never at his full power during his fight against Gojo. It was only after Sukuna defeated Gojo that he started transforming into his true form, i.e., his Heian-era form. This meant that Sukuna was far stronger during his fight against the other Jujutsu sorcerers than he was against Gojo.
Moreover, as explained by Uraume, the only reason the Jujutsu Sorcerers won against the King of Curses was because he was in a reincarnated body. This meant that he could not use his full power. While the Gege Akutami manga gave fans the long-awaited Satoru Gojo vs. Ryomen Sukuna fight in the manga, the fight’s power scaling was nowhere close to what it could have been had Sukuna fought in his true Heian form. Unfortunately, since the series has ended, there is no way to witness the same.
