What Is the Bygones God Roll in Destiny 2?
A god roll is the best combination of perks and masterwork that a weapon can get. God rolls are often sought after as they are considered the ultimate drop of that weapon and the most effective roll used in most content. In most situations, there are two god rolls for any gun, a roll for PvE and one for PvP. Bygones has a decent PvE roll as its god roll that while maybe not worth chasing, its worth keeping if you get it. On the other hand, the PvP god roll is absolutely one worth going for as the Bygones is looking to be one of the best pulse rifles in the game for the Crucible.
PvE Bygones God Roll

- Barrel: Arrowhead Brake
- Magazine: Appended Mag

- Weapon Mod: Activity and Build Dependent
PvE Breakdown
The fan-favorite pulse rifle Bygones is back and better than ever. This was a go-to weapon during its first run in the game, and its nice to have it back with a lot more perks to choose from. Bygones has some of the better stats for its frame and slot making it a solid pickup. As with most primary weapons, Arrowhead Brake is just to good of a perk to overlook for the benefit to recoil and the additional handling. The Appended Mag perk will all but max out our magazine size and but something like Flared Magwell or Light Mag will also work. The Bygones already has great stats across the board, so any masterwork will work just fine with Reload Speed or Handling being the best options for PvE.
As a playlist weapon, the Bygones has 12 perks each in Columns 3 and 4, so getting that perfect roll will be more difficult than most weapons. That being said, most of its perks are good in most situations, so its hard to get a bad roll unless you are just very unlucky. For its utility in PvE, Shoot to Loot is our pick for Column 3. It is useful for picking up ammo from a range and will even reload your weapons from reserves when you shoot an ammo brick. Kinetic Tremors is a great perk for dealing damage to large enemies and even clumped up groups of minor combatants. These two perks even work well together as the tremors will work to pick up any orbs or ammo bricks with Shoot to Loot.
Other PvE Rolls of Note
- Demolitionist / Frenzy
- A decent combo that provides bonus damage and excellent synergy with grenade builds
PvP Bygones God Roll
The best perks for the Bygones PvP God Roll are Hammer-forged Rifling, Ricochet Rounds, Keep Away, and Kill Clip. These provide important stats, utility, and damage for the weapon.
The following list is the best perks for the Bygones PvP God Roll in Destiny 2:
- Barrel: Hammer-forged Rifling
- Magazine: Ricochet Rounds
- Column 3 Trait: Keep Away
- Column 4 Trait: Kill Clip
- Masterwork: Range
- Origin Trait: Run and Gun
- Weapon Mod: Ballistics
PvP Breakdown
Bygones was a monster in the Crucible back in its heyday to its above-average stats and great perks options. Now its back with the same stats, better perk options, and the ability to be enhanced, making the bygones a must-chase weapon for PvP. As with almost any primary in PvP, increasing our range is priority one. Hammer-forged Rifling and Ricochet Rounds are great for this, but you could also opt for other perks that will increase the range further but hurt our other stats. A Range masterwork and a Ballistics mod further help this weapon’s overall accuracy.
Pulse rifles are almost always used at a range so a perk like Keep Away is great on this weapon. Keep Away increases range and reload speed when no targets are within 15 meters, which is well inside of the optimal range for adaptive pulse rifles. The second column has a lot of great options for PvP, so choosing a singular god roll perk is playstyle-dependent, but for the sake of our roll, we went with High Ground. Getting High Ground to activate makes it very easy to two-burst even the most resilient opponents. Bygones is looking like it could become one of if not absolutely the best pulse rifle in PvP.
Other PvP Rolls of Note
- Under Pressure / Closing Time
- Drain your magazine to 50% percent capacity to get some high stat boost.
- Zen Moment / Kill Clip
- Very similar to our main god roll with less stringent but also less effective bonuses.
- To the Pain / Eye of the Storm
- A dueling roll that will get better as you take more damage
FAQ about the Bygones God Roll Guide
Q1. What are the odds of getting a Bygones god roll?
Answer: Since it has such a large perk pool the odds of getting the exact roll you want on the Bygones is lower than most weapons. To get a 5/5 god roll, you have about a 1 in 56000 chance. That being said, you can improve these odds by resetting your Gambit infamy rank. Resetting your rank will have any weapons earned in that playlist have the chance of rolling with additional perks. The more you reset, you higher your odds for getting the bonus perks. At its highest level, the bonus perks can be in a 3-2, a 2-1, or 1-3 configuration. This will increase your chances of getting that perfect god roll by a significant amount to a 1 in 14000 chance.
Q2. How to check god rolls in Destiny 2?
While you can manually check each and every weapon in game by comparing them with your desired god roll, it is much easier to use a database system to appraise the weapons you want. You can utilize database websites like light.gg‘s God Roll Appraiser to look at all your weapons to see how they compare to what the general population is using. This type of appraisal is great for when you aren’t sure of what you want on a specific weapon and you have a lot of them to go through.
Q3. What are God Rolls in Destiny 2?
God rolls are essentially the best perks a weapon can get at any point. Since the PvE sandbox and the PvP sandbox are very different and require different perks, weapons often have at least 2 god rolls: a PvE perk set and a PvP perk set. Additionally, some weapons may have niche other god rolls that may be used in very specific situations. Finally, while it can be said that all weapons have god rolls, that does not mean that all god rolls are worth chasing after. Some individual weapon god rolls are much worse than other weapon rolls that fulfill the same niche and therefore aren’t worth going after.
