Metaphor ReFantazio is filled with multiple dungeons that players can attempt to earn valuable rewards and face challenging enemies. While a lot of enemies you face in ReFantazio’s can be optional, others are required to complete the dungeon. The Louisian Mage Captains present mandatory boss fights in the Grand Cathedral dungeon, and even at easier difficulty settings, they can pose a massive challenge in the game.
In this article, we will break down how you can defeat the Louisian Mage Captains in Metaphor ReFantazio.
How to Beat Louisian Mage Captains in Metaphor ReFantazio
You fight two Louisian Mage Captains in the game. The boss will be accompanied by different companions in both encounters.
First Encounter
These are the recommended Archetypes you can use in your first fight against the Louisian Mage Captain:
- Healer
- Brawler
- Knight
When you first encounter the Louisian Mage Captain, he will be paired with undead captains for the battle. The boss will not attack you until all of his undead soldiers have been taken down. Hulkenburg’s Knight Archetype can come in use here as it provides resistance to the Sword Captain. This aspect of the boss can also be helpful if you keep the Sword Captain alive throughout the fight.
You can use Knight’s Proclamation to keep other members of the party from taking damage. The undead enemies are weak to Light and striking damage types. Your protagonist, with the Healer Archetype, should be on the frontline with Strohl, exploiting these weaknesses with the Brawler Archetype.
Once you have taken the first three undead enemies down, you need to avoid killing the fourth one to prevent a party-wide attack. You can use Hulkenburg’s piercing attacks to focus on the Louisian Mage Captain’s weakness. After you take down the Mage Captain, you need to shift your focus to the Sword Captain Malmorta. Use “Knight’s Proclamation” to keep the boss’s attention on Hulkenburg while the others deal damage.
Second Encounter
These are the recommended Archetypes you can use in your second fight against the Louisian Mage Captain:
- Warrior
- Knight
- Mage/Healer
For your second fight against the Louisian Mage Captain in Metaphor ReFantazio, it is recommended that you choose the Mage Archetype so that you can use the “Dei” skill. However, you can also use the Healer Archetype as well as long as you have the “Blizz” spell from the Mage Archetype. You can use “Blizz” to defeat the Sword Captains. This will allow the Knight and Warrior Archetypes to focus on damaging the Mage Captain and tanking attacks from Sword Captains.
Be sure to not bring the Brawler Archetype as the Warrior is much better with its “Slicer” spell. This spell allows you to deal weak slash damage to the Mage Captain. You can also, once again, use “Knight’s Proclamation” to keep the Sword Captains’ attention away from Hulkenburg.
