Does Deku lose his One For All Quirk at the end of My Hero Academia manga? This question has left many stumped because it makes sense for the series to end how it started. Considering that Deku did not have a Quirk when the series began, it would make sense for him to lose it while protecting everyone.

So, yes, Deku loses the One For All Quirk at the end of My Hero Academia manga. As fans must have seen in the anime, he has his quirk while fighting Shigaraki Tomura. So, how does he lose it at the end of the series? Also, does it affect his work as a hero, or did he switch his profession?

How Did Deku Lose His Quirk?

Although Deku was able to keep up with Shigaraki Tomura in the final battle, as the fight progressed, each of Deku’s quirks started to backfire on him due to repeated usage. This meant that if Deku kept fighting while using the One For All quirk, he would have eventually lost due to the physical damage the Quirk was causing his body.

With that in mind, Kudo asked Deku to give up the One For All Quirk and transfer it to Shigaraki. Since the Quirk was now damaging Deku from within, transferring it to Shigaraki should help the vestiges damage the villain from within. Even though Deku considered the One For All Quirk a precious gift from his teacher, All Might, he agreed to give it away to defeat the villain.

Hence, Deku proceeded with the plan and transferred all the One For All Quirks to Shigaraki by hitting him, ultimately leading to the villain’s demise. This also meant that Deku and Shigaraki took down All For One together in the vestige world.

Did Deku Get His Quirk Back?

No, Deku did not get his Quirk back at the end of the series. After Deku lost his Quirk, many fans theorized how the My Hero Academia protagonist could restore his One For All Quirk. Unfortunately, no such development took place in the manga series.

Many fans also believed that after Deku completely lost his One For All Quirk, the manga could see him manifest his alleged “original” Quirk that was theorized to be taken away by Doctor Kyudai Garaki on All For One’s orders. Such a development could have given Deku’s father, Hisashi, the chance to appear in the manga. Unfortunately, as expected, no such development took place in the manga either.

The good thing is that Deku did not lose the One For All Quirk instantly after he transferred it but carried its embers for a few more years until they vanished entirely. Hence, Deku was left Quirkless at the end of the series.

Did Deku Finally Become a Pro Hero?

Yes, Deku does become a Pro Hero at the end of My Hero Academia manga. After Class A finished high school, they got busy due to their hero work. As for Deku, after he lost his Quirk, he decided to become a teacher at U.A. High School to help shape the next generation of Pro Heroes. While he did miss being a Pro Hero and protecting people, he had to do what he could to improve society. Hence, he chose to go down the teaching path.

Just when it seemed that the manga would end with Deku not becoming a Pro Hero, the final segment saw Toshinori Yagi (All Might) seemingly returning from America. He had gotten Deku a gift commissioned by Katsuki Bakugo and his friends from Class A. The gift was a support item based on the data collected by Armored All Might during the fight against All For One. Using this support item, Deku fulfilled his dream of becoming a Pro Hero. This was depicted in a final scene, in which all the Class A students leaped into the sky as Pro Heroes.

In Conclusion

While many fans would have preferred seeing Deku retain his One For All Quirk at the end of the series, it made sense for manga creator Kohei Horikoshi to strip him of the Quirk. This is because, while Deku was a great hero, he was not defined by his Quirk but by his actions and willingness to save others. This is exactly why, despite losing his Quirk, Deku became a Pro Hero.
