Everything you need to know about the Silent Hill 2 Remake Labyrinth bug on PC, including the possible fixes, reasons, and more.
Silent Hill 2 Remake’s latest update introduced a rather annoying and game-breaking bug to the survival horror title. The bug essentially affects the Labyrinth chapter of the game, halting progress for players after a certain point. The Labyrinth bug makes it so that, after progressing through the first two floors of the Labyrinth, players will not be able to unlock the final door that’s needed to progress the main story. Naturally, this bug halts players dead in their tracks who saved their game at the Labyrinth before the update went live. Additionally, the bug seems to affect only PC, as there haven’t been any reports of a similar game-breaking bug from players on PS5.
The Labyrinth is already one of the most confusing parts of Silent Hill 2 Remake. The level basically requires players to go through three floors of maze-like levels, filled with enemies as well as puzzles. Furthermore, the Labyrinth levels also feature encounters against enemies like the Mandarin and Pyramid Head. Naturally, the Labyrinth is already quite tough to get through as is. However, with the progression-blocking bug, it’s bound to annoy players even more. Thankfully, there’s a workaround for the Labyrinth bug. Here’s everything you need to know about Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Labyrinth bug and the possible fixes.
Possible Fixes for Silent Hill 2 Remake’s Labyrinth Bug
The Labyrinth bug happens if you load a save within the Labyrinth area (Past the Toluca Prison Gallows) after installing the version 1.04 update. The bug triggers randomly while trying to open the doors to progress through the Labyrinth. You’re essentially required to rotate a cube to align it with the placement of the doors in the room. However, after installing the latest title update, rotating the cube doesn’t unlock the path to the doors. As such, even if you know the solution to the cube puzzle, you won’t be able to progress through the area. So far, this is the only major bug that has been discovered (and reported) by players following the 1.04 update.
Developer Bloober Team has also acknowledged the issue and has confirmed that the team is already hard at work on a fix. Meanwhile, the developers did suggest a potential fix that players can try to get past the Labyrinth bug. The suggested fix is to load a previous save before entering the Labyrinth. You can simply load the last save you had in the Toluca Prison Gallows and from there, make your way to the Abstract Daddy boss fight and then, the Labyrinth.
While loading a previous save retroactively erases hours of progress, it is currently the only way to get past the Labyrinth bug. Additionally, some players have reported that reinstalling the game or running Steam’s game file verification tool for Silent Hill 2 Remake, has helped them get past the Labyrinth. It should be noted that the bug only happens in saves that are created before the 1.04 update. If you reach the Labyrinth after installing the recent title update, you won’t face this issue.
Possible Reasons for the Labyrinth Bug in Silent Hill 2 Remake
The developers have not mentioned any specific reason for the Labyrinth bug. However, some players suspect it has something to do with the introduction of Frame Generation and AMD FSR3. Given the bug isn’t present in the PS5 version of the game, the new features added specifically to the PC version might be the culprit here. As for the official fix, Bloober Team has not given any specific date when the update (hotfix) will be deployed. However, it’s expected to arrive soon.
