Planet Coaster 2 is out and seeks to build upon the fundamentals of the first game while also improving on what worked in the first game.
It has been nearly eight years since Planet Coaster first launched, bringing hundreds of hours of park-building, designing, and management content. Now, after a long wait, its sequel, Planet Coaster 2, is finally here and promises to build on the first game’s strong foundations while also adding a plethora of new content and improvements. The game features new themes, customization options, multiplayer modes, and much more.
In this article, we are gonna list four major improvements that Planet Coaster 2 has over its predecessor.
1. Improved Customization
The original Planet Coaster wowed fans of the theme park simulator genre with its customization levels and player freedom. The sequel takes this up a notch by adding even more options for players to flex their creative muscles.
The game features a customizable color palette that lets you alter the colors of every single element in the game, ensuring that the park looks exactly how you envision it. The sequel also lets you attach scenery and blueprints directly to rides, offering a level of flexibility the series hasn’t seen before.
2. Water Parks Are in the Game!
Despite its popularity, one of the biggest gripes about the first game was the sameness of many structures, with new rides and attractions often feeling like reskins. Planet Coaster 2 addresses this by adding the much-requested water parks. These new attractions include pools, six-person raft flumes, plughole, sphere, and boomerang rides, all “inspired by real-life water park attractions.”
The water park addition also introduces unique challenges, such as managing new staff types (lifeguards), handling changing rooms, costumes, water filtration systems, and more. This new attraction brings a fresh experience and more gameplay variety.
3. Play With Friends
Planet Coaster 2 allows you to work on collaborative projects with others, bringing in a friend to build your dream theme park together. While collaborative projects were possible in the first game, they weren’t integrated in-game, and players had to jump through hoops to make it work. Planet Coaster 2 includes this collaboration feature, allowing you and your friend to work on the same park in turns within the game.
4. Expanded Menus and Tools
Beyond customization, Planet Coaster 2 enhances the already impressive management tools from the first game. It introduces new menus, like the Park Management menu, providing insights into Park Options, Ratings, Guests, Attractions, Shops, Staff, Finances, and more.
Additionally, the game adds a new heat map feature. This turns on a thermal mode of sorts, showing the most visited locations in your park. It gives you a clearer view of guest preferences, moods, and the success of your attractions.
