What is the Infinity Castle in Demon Slayer? Understand more about the structure that housed some of the strongest demons.
Demon Slayer manga author, Koyoharu Gotouge, has shown decent world-building capabilities despite how short this series is. Shonen titles often go on for years, if not decades. The likes of One Piece started decades ago, and the series is still continuing. One of the most impressive things about Demon Slayer is that the world and the battle system are quite fleshed out.
Gotouge’s use of real-life locations injected a sense of realism into the story. However, there are plenty of locations that are made up as well. One of the most popular buildings in the Demon Slayer series is the Infinity Castle. Those who have been watching the anime would have come across the structure every time Muzan held a meeting with the Lower and Upper Moon demons.

The layout, number of rooms, orientation, and other aspects of the building can be modified with ease. This place is quite important to the overarching story since some of the most important fights take place here.

Muzan planned to trap all the demon hunters in the Infinity Castle. This was shown at the end of the Hashira Training arc. We saw Hashira and other demon hunters like Inosuke and Zenitsu fall into an abyss. While they were falling, we could see glimpses of demons lurking in every corner.

This was the ideal method to get rid of all the demons who were posing a threat to Muzan at the time.
Her reconnaissance abilities are off the charts. Her eyeball could detach from her, develop tiny limbs, and crawl for long distances. This is how she located the Hashira and other demon hunters’ location and trapped them in the Infinity Castle. Her Blood Demon Art allowed her to escape from Mitsuri and Obanai as they were closing in on her. She constantly changed the layout of the Infinity Castle, making it extremely difficult for the demon hunters to keep track of their whereabouts.
The Biwa instrument serves as a medium for her Blood Demon Art. Anytime she wishes to manipulate the castle, she plucks the string of the instrument. Each note that she plays brings about a certain result. Her combat abilities are almost non-existent. She takes on a support role and nearly helps Muzan kill all the Hashira and demon hunters in the series.
How Relevant Is the Infinity Castle to the Overarching Story?
The Infinity Castle is quite important to the story. There is an entire arc dedicated to all the events that are taking place in the Infinity Castle. The arc in question also happens to be the longest one in the anime. The production team confirmed that the arc will be animated into a trilogy of films. All the events that will take place in the films occur in the Infinity Castle.
This is where the strongest Upper Moon demons take on various members of the Demon Slayer Corps. Fans will also witness Zenitsu’s best moments in the entire story. He is known for fighting purely on instincts as fear forces his body to black out. But, his fight against an Upper Moon demon in the Infinity Castle will be one to remember. He is enraged, fights while he’s completely conscious, and also shows off a technique that he created.
This is where Kokushibo, the Upper Moon 1 demon, Doma, the Upper Moon 2 demon, and Akaza, the Upper Moon 3 demon, will show off their true potential. Fans will also witness Gyomei and Sanemi fight for the first time. This is why the Infinity Castle is quite important to the overarching story.
What Happens to the Infinity Castle?
Nakime, the Upper Moon demon, controls the Infinity Castle. However, Yushiro manages to locate Nakime and makes his way to her. He takes control of Nakime and proceeds to manipulate the building. His goal was to send Muzan and all the members of the Demon Slayer Corps outside. He succeeds in doing so and proceeds to kill Nakime, who is an Upper Moon demon.
At this point, the Infinity Castle starts crumbling. The building ascends to the ground, and as it’s ascending, it completely falls apart. Nakime’s death results in the castle breaking down.
