MMO games can easily take up hours of your time without you realizing. You need to invest countless hours into these games to build the ideal character or set up an impressive base. However, the overall result of all that is quite rewarding, which is why MMOs can be so addictive. However, if you’re bored with the current selection of MMOs in the market or have already played through them all, there’s more in store.

Several new MMO games are expected to launch in 2025, so check them out in the list down below. This includes a new LOTR MMORPG, a survival-oriented Dune title, and even a new game from the makers of No Man’s Sky.

Best Upcoming MMOs in 2025

1. Amazon’s Lord of the Rings MMO

After their experience with two successful MMORPGs (Lost Ark and New World), Amazon has turned their attention to the Lord of The Rings franchise for their next title. It’s been a while since we had a new LOTR MMO, and 2007’s The Lord of the Rings Online is still going strong, with an active community. For this new LOTR MMO, Amazon is partnering with Embracer Group.

What we know for now is that the game will be arriving in 2025. Now, while the TV series may not have been faithful to the original franchise, we’re hoping the game will be better.

2. ArcheAge Chronicles

ArcheAge Chronicles is a sequel to ArcheAge, an MMORPG released back in 2013. So, there’s no doubt that fans of the original ArcheAge are quite hyped about this upcoming title. The ArcheAge makers described their game as a ‘sandpark’ title, which is a portmanteau of a sandbox and theme park. The new game is expected to bring back all of the features that made ArcheAge so popular.

You’ll be part of a trading company in the game, so trading is naturally a big aspect of the gameplay. Other than that, you can craft, farm, build houses, engage in naval combat, and more. There’s the usual RPG class system, and it seems quite graphically impressive.

3. Chrono Odyssey

Chrono Odyssey is another impressive-looking MMORPG set to arrive in 2025. It runs on Unreal Engine 5, so the graphics are quite impressive, as usual. You’ll also have a massive seamless open world to explore, which features dynamic weather effects. Like most RPGs, there are several classes, but you’ll get to use two weapon types per class.

What makes this game special, however, is the ability to manipulate time. This MMO lives up to its name and includes time-travel mechanics through an artifact known as the Chronotector. While Chrono Odyssey doesn’t have a fixed release date, it’s expected to launch in 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

4. Dune: Awakening

If you enjoy Frank Herbert’s Dune novels, you’ll be pleased to learn that an MMO based on them is on the way. When it comes to digital media, the Dune franchise has spawned several video games, movies, and even TV series over the years. While the movies and TV series have been quite popular, the video games haven’t fared particularly well, apart from Dune: Spice Wars, which saw a full release in 2023.

Now, Dune: Awakening is expecting to take the franchise in a new direction with a survival-based open-world MMO set on the iconic desert planet. Apart from third-person combat and exploration, the game also features crafting and base-building, along with faction-based warfare. Dune: Awakening seems quite similar to Conan: Exiles, another online survival-based game from the same devs, Funcom.

In fact, Funcom also published Dune: Spice Wars, so they’re already quite familiar with this franchise. They’ve also released successful MMOs in the past (Anarchy Online, Age of Conan), so we’re expecting this upcoming title to be quite impressive.

5. Epitome

Epitome is another MMORPG that’s set to arrive in the first quarter of 2025. Now, the game offers gorgeous visuals (courtesy of UE5), diverse biomes with historically-influenced architecture, and spectacular real-time combat. What makes Epitome special is that it boasts AI-powered NPCs who you can have realistic conversations with. This also includes negotiating with in-game traders and getting AI-generated quests based on your playstyle.

This also means that the game has a dynamic world that reacts to your every action. Some other interesting things to note are that Epitome will supposedly host over 33,000 players on a single server, and that there are no pay-to-win elements involved.

6. Light No Fire

Hello Games is popularly known for No Man’s Sky, the open-world space exploration survival game with procedural generation, and a world map that’s bigger than 250 galaxies. Now, they’re set to release a fantasy MMO with the same procedural generation system. Not much has been revealed about the game so far, but we know that it will have a massive fantasy planet for players to explore.

Light No Fire will also feature massively multiplayer gameplay, with a heavy emphasis on survival and exploration. The planet is supposedly bigger than Earth, and procedurally generated, so there’s a lot of hype surrounding this game.

7. Pax Dei

Pax Dei is described as a social sandbox MMO featuring a massive open world, real-time combat, crafting, survival, trading, and base-building. The social aspect of the game is that you can pool resources together with other players to develop your own villages or fortresses. The in-game economy is heavily reliant on the players, as all crafted items are created by players alone. There’s also no rigid class system, so you’re free to make your own.

Pax Dei is already available in early access at the moment, and the reception has been mixed. However, the devs are working to address all concerns, since most of the issues with the game are fixable.

8. The Quinfall

The Quinfall is an upcoming MMORPG from Vawraek Technology, a Turkish indie company. Its Steam page description is quite vague, and it seems like any other MMORPG in a fantasy setting. However, you may notice that the devs have promised a map size of 2016 sq km, which supposedly also adapts to the four seasons.

There has been some amount of skepticism surrounding the game, which is understandable. However, if the devs are able to at least deliver on their promise regarding the map, it would definitely be an interesting title. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but it’s expected to launch another closed beta in January 2025.
