Death Penalty can be a gamer’s worst nightmare if they tend to learn from their mistakes. This mechanic adds little room for improvement because instead of fighting off against the challenge, the players start fighting the game itself. So, what does Stalker 2 do with this mechanic?

The answer is simple. Stalker 2 doesn’t use Death Penalty in the game at all. Those looking to enhance the difficulty of the game can do so separately. However, the Death Penalty won’t apply in any of the difficulty levels. This is probably the developers’ way of going easy on the fanbase.

The main reason behind this could be the fact that The Zone itself can be an unforgiving experience. There is a chance that Skif will lose his life more than once during your playthrough. If the game had a penalty on each death, you may not have enjoyed the Stalker 2 experience just as much.

In other games, Death Penalty may look like the loss of XP or some stats. Some developers get creative with inventory loss, including different combinations like losing only non-equipped items, losing only looted items, or worst yet, losing everything altogether.

This is not the case with Stalker 2 and you can play safely even if you are not a seasoned action shooter player. The Zone can still be a harsh place for a new Stalker though. So, let us give you a few tips before you venture out into the wild again.

How To Reduce Death in Stalker 2

It doesn’t matter whether you lose something when the protagonist dies in a game, the “game over” screen is always annoying. While it is relieving to know that your inventory will be intact when the last save file reloads, Skif’s death can slow you down. This is especially the case when you have been stuck in a location for quite some time and just want to get done with it.

A few things that you need to pay attention to are:

  • Equipment: Not only should you keep only the best gear with you, but you must also take care of the things you carry around. We mean it, especially for the weapons. If the durability is wearing down, it is best that you get it repaired before it reaches below 50% of degradation. The lower the degradation, the higher the price of repair. And moreover, if you are shooting with a gun that is on the verge of breaking, it is more susceptible to jamming.
  • Inventory Management: We get it. You are not losing anything, so why not just carry everything you can find? But that wouldn’t be a smart move coming from a Stalker who is going about a world filled with hostile mutants and humans that shoot on sight. Leave the things that no longer serve you. Either sell them or drop them to manage the weight of your bag. This will also help you manage the player’s stamina.
  • Loot Priority: You know your playstyle and limits. If you are somebody who doesn’t take much cover and tends to shoot enemies right in their faces, try carrying more healing and recovery items. Also, whenever you see a gun lying around, make sure to ‘unload’ it to take the bullets for yourself.

This small list doesn’t sum up all that you need to take care of in Stalker 2. But they can surely save you from dying over and over again.
