Marvel Rivals has been compared with Overwatch 2 on various occasions. Which one should you rather play out of the two?
Is Marvel Rivals the new Overwatch killer? This is a question that must have crossed many gamers’ minds. And to be fair, there is no straight answer to it. It’s all a matter of perspective. However, which one you choose to play depends on what you prefer.
The two games have their similarities. For example, both of them are Hero Shooters and offer some similar match modes and a free-to-play model. Irrespective of these similarities, they can feel pretty different.

The Vastly Different Character Roster
Overwatch created some original characters when the original game first came out. The first installment’s success among the fans popularized all the characters. The roster in itself was ‘original’. This is not the case with Marvel Rivals.
Comic book fans must already be familiar with over 20 of the 33 total characters that Marvel Rivals introduced. This is because all of them are slightly different adaptations of our classic and beloved Marvel characters. Some of them may be new for you, but they are all related to Marvel one way or another.
This is a key difference that can turn the world around for Hero Shooter fans. Your loyalty to the Marvel roster can be a determining factor here.
Art Style Differences
Both Blizzard Entertainment and NetEase Games are known for different types of games with differing art styles. It is exactly what makes a game stand out from the ordinary. Overwatch 2 opted for a more polished version of their original art style in the first installment. Marvel Rivals, on the other hand, pulled out a completely different card.
Fans of the genre will experience a more refined comic-book art style in the new Marvel Hero Shooter game. We are no experts in analyzing art styles, but it surely looks like something that you may like to experience yourself.
Key Gameplay Differences
Both the games have a class system. This feature is seen in many Hero Shooters and is not native to any of these. However, both of them have similar categories too. While Overwatch 2 has Tank, Attack, and Support classes, Marvel Rivals brings Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist classes. These three are respectively similar to each other.
But what stands out are some enhanced features that NetEase Games is introducing. One of the features that you and your friends must check out is the Team Up Ability. This is what makes the new Marvel game a different experience from Overwatch 2 altogether. If you have characters that have some sort of connection between them, either lore or gameplay-wise, you can use their unique abilities together.
The final verdict always rests on the players themselves. Overwatch 2 is still not completely dead and has a healthy enough player count for fast matchmaking. So, if you wish to and haven’t already, you can check out Overwatch 2 to remain connected to the original Overwatch game. On the other hand, if you want a fresh spin on Hero Shooters and happen to be a Marvel fan as well, then Marvel Rivals is the game for you.
