Marvel Rivals and Deadlock are both upcoming games of the same genre. Which one should you rather wait for?
Marvel Rivals and Deadlock are two Hero Shooters that are yet to be released. The former is set to come out on the 6th of December, while the latter hasn’t even been announced yet.
The world tasted a bit of Rivals, thanks to the open beta testing. As for Deadlock, the game is still in the Early Development stage. The only way you can play Deadlock for now is if you receive an invitation from Valve or a friend who currently has access to Deadlock.
Despite being Hero Shooters, both games appear to have some key differences that make them stand out from each other. These could be crucial in determining which game you should wait for.
Please note that this only covers the major differences that we noted between the two games that can set them apart and help you determine which one is better suited for you. However, at this point in Deadlock’s development, Valve hasn’t released much information. So, when more information is out, some of the points here may not remain as relevant.
Available Platforms and Gameplay
NetEase is releasing its new project on all next-gen platforms. This means that besides PC users, gamers on PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S will also get to experience it in the same way. As for Deadlock, there is no revelation whether it will come to consoles. All we know so far is that it may stay exclusive to PC.
Moreover, there seems to be a drastic gameplay difference between the two games. While Marvel Rivals has a full-fledged class system, with three classes to choose from, that doesn’t appear to be the case for Deadlock. It is possible that Valve stays away from the typical class system and sticks to individuality among the introduced heroes.
Different Characters
This is pretty self-explanatory. NetEase Games went with an already-popular roster of characters. There may be some that you haven’t heard of if you are a casual Marvel fan. But for those who have been loyal to the comic-book era, this game can almost feel surreal.
Deadlock, on the other hand, introduces originally written characters. Whether they will introduce a background lore for them is yet to be seen. Unlike Overwatch 1 and 2, you will be able to look at your character completely because the game is a third-person shooter.
For Marvel fans, this decision could be easy to make.
It’s All in the Art
The teaser and occasional footage for Deadlock suggest that it is going for an art style that Valve may be familiar with. The studio has dealt with dystopian settings before in many games. While the game may not have a gothic setting in all the maps, it is definitely not vibrant. Deadlock brings a steampunk dystopian vibe to the table with its dingy art style.
Marvel Rivals, on the other hand, went for a completely different approach. The game’s art style looks like a modern comic. Even the destroyed areas of the map look vibrant and cheerful due to the art style approach that NetEase has taken for the game.
As usual, you are the one to decide which game you would like to play. Since Marvel Rivals releases on 6th December 2024 and Deadlock is expected to release before late 2025, you have plenty of time to check out both of these games individually. However, if you are not a PC player, Deadlock may not be on your list at all. When it comes to the art style, we believe both of them are worth appreciating for their uniqueness, but it all boils down to your personal taste.
