The famed studio’s resume boasts hits like Wolfenstein: The New Order and Wolfenstein 2: The New Colossus, both games that were released to critical acclaim.
While the developers could’ve easily tread the same path as they did with Wolfenstein, they’re looking to give Indiana Jones’ next adventure its own distinct identity. MachineGames has introduced several new features and has made bold gameplay decisions to separate Indy’s adventure from their Wolfenstein past. In this article, we shall go over the five gameplay features that set Indiana Jones and the Great Circle apart from Wolfenstein.
1) Whip First, Guns Last
While Wolfenstein features massive guns that you could dual-wield, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes a more personal, more grounded approach to its combat. The game introduces Indy’s signature whip, which, when paired with his two fists, can wreak havoc upon enemies in the game. You do have the option to use a revolver or a rifle, but Indy is not a B.J. Blazkowicz and can quickly be overwhelmed.
2) Greater Emphasis on Exploration
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle also places a much greater emphasis on exploration. The game’s vast levels are filled with keys that can unlock secret doors in the levels. You will frequently find yourself backtracking along the levels in search of the various secrets within. Behind these doors are letters and diary entries that expand the game’s lore and other hidden items. The game incentivizes exploration, which is a contrast to the more linear, corridor-to-corridor gameplay of Wolfenstein.
3) Puzzles Galore

This adds a layer of platforming and focus on movement that was absent in the Wolfenstein games. The platforming sections help slow down the pace and provide a breather from intense combat encounters. This adds another aspect to the game that players can master.
5) Stealth
Stealth, while present in the Wolfenstein games, was never its real focus. The game would quite blatantly discourage stealth by providing you with massive machine guns that you could dual-wield like a badass. Indiana Jones, however, prefers to take things slow and quiet. Stealth is almost the primary way of dealing with enemies in the game.
You will often sneak around, from cover to cover, while hiding in the shadows and picking off enemies. While you can use fists to dispose of them, items such as garden hoes or bottles would allow you to knock out enemies faster and clear the level easier.
