Path of Exile 2 (PoE2) will be released in early access with half of the planned classes. Check them out and make an informed decision later.
Path of Exile 2 has received an initial release on December 6, 2024. The full-release schedule is still TBA, but the developers have confirmed that we will be getting 6 out of the 12 planned classes in the Early Access itself. Grinding Gear Games has already decided which ones we will see in the Early Access.
Playing the Early Access can cost you a little if you haven’t spent enough in the previous game. That is a discussion that we have already covered. For now, let’s keep our focus narrowed down to the 6 classes we will be receiving next week on all available platforms.
Introducing 12 classes is a big leap from the 7 classes that the predecessor had. Moreover, there will also be 2 Ascension classes for each Archetype besides the basic one. This means there will be a total of 36 classes in the game, keeping the gameplay as varied as ever.
For now, we will take a look at the 18 classes and sub-classes that fans will have access to during the Early Access period. The developers have spoken against the “pay-to-win” culture in some games. This means that these classes will be available to everybody in the free-to-play game.
Classes and Ascensions in Path of Exile 2 Early Access That You Can Choose From
1. The Warrior
This class is exactly how it sounds: a classic brute in every RPG. Players who wish to unload big and chunky attacks on their enemies should go for this class. This hero also dons large amounts of armor that can shrug off attacks from smaller enemies pretty easily. Apart from this basic build, there are two Ascendancy sub-classes for him.
- The Titan: Be a juggernaut in battle and shrug off any attack. A Titan will keep his focus on stuns, slams, and a beefy defense. If you wish to be an absolute tank on the battlefield, go for it!
- The Warbringer: Unlike the Titan, this sub-archetype is more focused on offense. You will have access to abilities like a warcry, which can detonate fallen enemies, causing further damage to the enemies. Feel free to dominate the frontline with the Warbringer.
2. The Sorceress
This is a magic archetype that primarily uses elements to bring enemies to their knees. As a Sorceress, you should be able to use a variety of elements at your disposal to wreak havoc on everybody. Unlike the Warrior, it is more of a ranged class and probably wouldn’t excel in close combat situations.
- The Stormweaver: Master the elements in such a way that you can cast your magic faster, hit harder with them, and apply status effects like chill and shock to a group of enemies. You will also be able to summon Elemental Storms.
- The Chronomancer: Gain mastery over temporal magic as well. You will be able to reset cooldowns and slow down enemies with your mere presence. Moreover, you will also be able to freeze time during fights.
3. The Ranger
The Ranger is another ranged class in the game. But this time around, you won’t be wielding magic but instead dealing physical damage to your foes. Unlike the Sorceress, this class is also pretty agile, vaulting away whenever needed.
- The Deadeye: Focus more on precision by being an expert marksman. You will move faster and use additional arrows to fire with every draw.
- The Pathfinder: This Ascendancy is more focused on tinkering with what you have already got. You will basically have the same movement and skills as a regular Ranger but will be able to turn mana potions into chemical weapons. Stacking poison with attacks can really turn the tide in a battle.
4. The Monk
This Archetype is focused on melee fighting and agility. You can dash in and out of combat quickly and can chain your attacks based on momentum.
- The Invoker: Master the Spirit and don’t lift a finger in fights. This will allow your ‘spirit’ to fight for you in battles. Apart from this skill, the Invoker can also wield elements and become an Elemental Avatar.
- The Acolyte of Chayula: This sub-class uses the same skills as its counterpart with a dark twist. Instead of Spirit, you will be able to use Darkness. Instead of elements, you will use Chaos. Moreover, you will be able to absorb damage and deal it back to the enemies.
5. The Mercenary
This class is not what you may be thinking. The developers are sticking to the medieval theme, not bringing in guns at all. However, the Mercenary class will still have access to a crossbow, which makes it different from the Ranger. You can load your crossbow with different ammo types and will have combo abilities.
- The Witchhunter: If you need protection against spellcasters, this is the perfect class. With an increased defense against magic, you can also break the concentration of an enemy.
- The Gemling Legionnaire: This is a class that uses more skills than any other. The more skills you use, the more powerful you will become, thanks to the embedding Gems mechanic that allows it.
6. The Witch
She may sound similar to the Sorceress, but a Witch’s powers are derived from darkness instead of elements. You can spawn hordes of the undead to aid you in battles and also use Chaos magic against enemies.
- The Bloodmage: Master the life energy and use your own ‘life’ (or health) as the source of the destruction you are about to cause in fights.
- The Infernalist: Do not be fooled by the name, for she is not your typical elemental friend. In fact, an Infernalist will no longer require mana to cast spells. Casting these spells will build heat, aiding her in combat. Moreover, she also keeps an Infernal Hound by her side and can transform herself into a demon on command.
