Paladin
- Weapon: Sword and Shield
The first of the combat lives, the Paladin is quite beginner-friendly due to its simple play style. In combat, you use the classic sword and shield combo. This provides you with great defense but slower offense.
This fits with the vibe of a Paladin, which is to be a shield for the weak. You will want a balance of attack and defense while using this class, so don’t invest too much into only one side; otherwise, you could struggle in combat later.
Mercenary

Unlike the selfless Paladin, the Mercenary is meant to be more self-serving. A Mercenary takes on enemies for their own gain. In battle, you use a greatsword to deal slow but heavy-hitting attacks.
The Mercenary will be one of the best lives in Fantasy Life i from a close-quarters combat perspective. It has a high potential to deal a large amount of damage at close range. You won’t swing a lot, but every time you do, your enemies will feel it.
Hunter
- Weapon: Bow
Contrary to the Mercenary, which prefers to fight up close, the Hunter is a ranged damage dealer. You use a bow in combat to snipe your enemies from afar. This allows you to safely take out most enemies from a distance without getting into the heat of chaotic battle.
However, since you can deal damage from a distance, this comes with the downside of doing less damage than other combat classes. Still, the Hunter can be viable once you start applying status effects to your attacks. Moreover, unlike most other games, bosses are not immune to status effects, making the Hunter still viable to use.
Sleep and Paralyze are great options that give you a window to deal damage without any retaliation.
Magician
- Weapon: Staff
Using magic spells is something unique to the Magician class. Wielding a staff lets you use a wide variety of colorful spells at your disposal to deal with enemies.
The Magician is very unique in how it plays due to the magic skills it learns. As usual, this class has very low defense to balance out its high damage output. This makes players quite vulnerable when charging up their spells. Lastly, you will want to decrease your spell charge time and simultaneously increase your SP pool.
