Monsters are the bread and butter of any Monster Hunter game, including the latest, Monster Hunter Wilds. While these behemoths can be very intimidating at first glance, most are quite easy to overpower once you know more about them.

All the monsters in the game have their own unique movesets and abilities. Furthermore, as you progress through the game, you will find Tempered variants of said monsters, which exhibit a few new abilities and increased aggression. In addition to that, every monster has its own set of strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Ajarakan, a Fanged Beast akin to Rajang, isn’t vulnerable to fire due to its habitat being the Oilwell Basin. However, it is weak to elements like Ice and Water.

For some monsters, such as the aforementioned Ajarakan, it’s quite easy to determine the weaknesses based on the habitat and the creature’s own elemental properties. However, the same cannot be said about the majority of monsters in the game’s roster. Here’s a list of all monster weaknesses in Monster Hunter Wilds (elemental and abnormal statuses).

Note: This article contains spoilers for Monster Hunter Wilds’ main story and monsters.

There are a total of 29 monsters in Monster Hunter Wilds. While all these monsters have their own unique moveset and abilities, some do share the same elemental weaknesses.

For instance, the Guardians, Guardian Arkveld, Zoh Shia, and even the regular, Flying Wyvern Arkveld, are all weak to the Dragon Element. Furthermore, monsters can also have multiple elemental/status weaknesses, such as Chatacabra being weak to Ice, Thunder, Stun, Paralysis, and Poison.

Unlike in Monster Hunter World, elemental damage is a really big deal in Monster Hunter Wilds. While it still fails to measure up to raw damage numbers, elemental can still be quite potent, with the right build. If you plan to go for a Charge Blade or Dual Blades build, knowing the monster’s elemental and status weaknesses is paramount. To aid with that, here’s a list of all monster weaknesses in Monster Hunter Wilds:

How To Inflict Elemental or Status Blight on Monsters

The best way to inflict elemental or status blights is by using said elemental weapon, preferably a fast-hitting weapon type. Dual Blades, Charge Blade, Switch Axe, Light Bowgun, Insect Glaive, Sword and Shield, and Bow are some of the best weapon types for elemental damage. However, even if you’re using something like a Great Sword, you can still deal elemental damage, albeit at a much slower rate and frequency. Another good way to deal with elemental or status blights is using the Slinger.
