Grow a Garden’s July 2025 update introduced Pet Mutations, a feature that turns every level 50 companion into a potential money machine. Drop a qualified pet into the Mutation Station beside Raphael’s Egg Shop, pay 500 million Sheckles, and wait sixty minutes, and you will unlock one of twelve power-ups that speed growth, protect crops, or catapult a fruit’s value by 150 times. Results range from legendary to lacklustre, so knowing each mutation’s odds and effects before you press E saves both time and cash.

Mutations completely change how you approach Grow a Garden. They give you a way to upgrade your pets, boost their abilities, and further increase your profits from your crops. To get started, you need to meet some important requirements before you can even think about mutating your pet.

  • Your pet must reach level 50.
  • You have to spend 500 million or 1 billion Sheckles, depending on the update version.
  • You’ll find the Pet Mutation machine next to Raphael’s Egg Shop or by the Gear and Pet Eggs stall.

Once your pet is ready, walk up to the mutation machine, press E, pay the fee, and start the process. You’ll see a timer, as it usually takes around 60 minutes. After it finishes, pick up your pet and see what new power it got. If you don’t like it, you can repeat the process, but you’ll have to level the pet up to 50 again first.

Now let’s break down all the pet mutations you can get. Each mutation has its own chance of appearing and gives your pet a unique trait or bonus. Here’s a full list:

  • Shiny (32.15%): Gives your pet a 15% XP boost every second. So, this is great if you want to level up pets faster without extra grinding.

  • Inverted (16.08%): Provides a stronger 30% XP boost per second. It’s a better version of Shiny if you’re focused on quick XP gain.

  • Windy (9.65%): Every 5 minutes or so, there’s about a 25% chance for a nearby fruit to become Windstruck. This mutation is more situational and depends on your fruit layout.

  • Frozen (9.65%): Similar to Windy, but it turns nearby fruits Frozen about every 3 minutes, again with a 25% chance.

  • Golden (6.43%): Increases your pet’s passive abilities slightly. However, most players consider it less useful compared to other options.

  • Tiny (6.43%): Shrinks your pet, slows its hunger rate by 20%, and gives it around 10 XP per second. This one is fun if you prefer a smaller pet with slower hunger drain.

  • Mega (6.43%): Makes your pet gigantic, speeds up its hunger rate by 20%, and boosts XP gain to about 20 per second. So, this is good if you want fast leveling and like a larger pet design.

  • IronSkin (3.22%): If someone steals your fruit, there’s a 35% chance you’ll get it back. This is a defensive option that works well if you play on busy servers with lots of theft.

  • Radiant (3.22%): Every 25 minutes, your pet emits sunshine that speeds up a nearby plant’s growth by 24 hours. This is very handy for crop-focused players.

  • Shocked (3.22%): During thunderstorms, every 55 seconds or so, there’s a 25% chance to attract lightning and shock nearby fruits. This adds a fun and chaotic element to your garden.

  • Rainbow (3.22%): This greatly boosts your pet’s passive ability. So, many players prefer this as it works well with almost any pet setup.

  • Ascended (0.32%): This is the rarest mutation. Every 6 hours, it can turn a nearby fruit into Dawnbound, multiplying its value by 150x. This is the most profitable mutation if you’re focused on making huge harvest gains.

Keep in mind that not every mutation is equally useful for every playstyle. Some players want faster XP, while others focus on maximizing crop value. Think about what you want most from your pet before you decide to keep or re-roll a mutation.

Overall, mutations bring a whole new depth to pet management in Grow a Garden. Once you unlock them, you’ll see how much they can change your approach to growing, harvesting, and making money. So, try them out and see which one fits your garden strategy best.
