Factions in Stalker 2 have their own set of morals, goals, and motivations and interact with each other and the story in unique ways.
The world of Stalker 2 is on its last legs, with monsters roaming the lands, nature bending in on itself and defying all sense, and lawlessness running rampant. As the world crumbles around in Stalker 2’s Zone, factions have emerged, thirsty for power. Each of these factions has their own set of goals, motivations, and moral codes.
The game features 12 factions for you to engage with. These factions include Bandits, Renegades, Duty, Ecologists, Freedom, Free Stalkers, Mercenaries, the Military, Monolith, Noon, Spark, the IPSF, and the Ward. In this guide, we shall go over all the factions present in Stalker 2.
Bandits
The Bandits, much like their name suggests, are a rogue force terrorizing the Zone. They’re a group comprised of convicts, thieves, and murderers who will murder you if you get in their way. The group is one of the main causes of conflict in the Zone, as they regularly pick fights with other factions. Their main bases are in Yanov and Zaton.
Renegades
When the Bandits’ desire to cause conflict eventually caught up to them, an internal rife broke out within the group. The Renegades are a faction of former Bandits who broke free from the group after the internal conflict. Despite their hatred for each other, the two groups are ironically mirror images of one another in how they function.
Freedom
Freedom is a Ukrainian paramilitary group that is waging war against the government in order to thwart their attempts to cover the truth. The group sees themselves as freedom fighters fighting for truth and justice against a tyrannical government. The group essentially plays the role of cop in these lands.
Duty
The Duty faction is a Ukrainian paramilitary group that believes in destroying the Zone itself. The group knows the truth behind the Zone and believes that peace and prosperity can only be achieved by destroying it. General Voronin leads the group from their base at Bar Agroprom.
Clear Sky
Clear Sky is an independent faction comprised of trained scientists who venture into the horror-filled lands of the Zone in order to obtain information and conduct experiments. They have no ulterior motives and initiate no conflicts. Science is their only driving factor.
Ecologists
The Ecologists, or Scientists, are another knowledge-driven faction roaming the Zone in Stalker 2. This faction, unlike Clear Sky, is strong-armed by the Ukrainian government, which funds their research. Their goal is much the same as their independent counterpart: to find information that could save the Zone.
Mercenaries
The Mercenaries are paid thugs and ex-soldiers for hire. Any task is fair game as long as they’re paid. Their tasks include assassinations, infiltration, retrieving items, extraction, and more. They have no goal except to fulfill the task given by the highest bidder and earn money.
Free Stalkers
Free Stalkers are independent stalkers who don’t align with any of the game’s other factions. Also called Loners, members of this group do very little together and are instead off on their own missions and personal goals. They just happen to come together under the single banner of the Free Stalkers.
Monolith
The Monolith is a hostile religious cult that worships the Wish Granter, a supposed alien artifact hidden in the Zone. The group is extremely hostile and serves as one of the main antagonists of the Stalker series.
Noon
The Noon faction consists of former members of the Monolith cult. These members realized that the cult was brainwashing them and broke free. We do not know much else about this group, but we can expect to learn more once Stalker 2 is released.
Military
The Military faction is the Ukrainian Military. The group serves and acts like less of a faction and more of an extension of the Ukrainian government. The Military guards the Zone’s borders to prevent trespassers and also carries out secret operations in the Zone.
Spark
Spark is a new faction debuting in Stalker 2. The faction is led by Scar, the protagonist of Stalker Clear Sky, who is a former military veteran. We expect to learn more about the group in Stalker 2.
Ward
The Ward is another new faction debuting in Stalker 2. Led by Colonel Alexander Korshunov, the group believes in restoring order to the Zone and act as peacekeepers (albeit unauthorized). Apart from playing cop, the group also guards the SIRCAA (Scientific Institute of Research of the Chornobyl Anomalous Area).
IPSF
The International Perimeter Security Force, or the IPSF, is the final faction making its debut in Stalker 2. The faction is shrouded in mystery, and not much is known about them. Their covert nature leads us to believe they may play a major role in the game’s story.
