How to Tame Creatures in Extinction

Find the creatures to tame in ARK: Extinction. You need to feed them their preferred food. Some harmful creatures need to be knocked out before taming them. The game offers distinct taming methods for different animals in the game. Knocking the animals allows you to feed them while unconscious. You can either use Knock Out Taming or Passive Taming based on the type of creature. Keep in mind that you can only tame them if you feed their preferred food item. Once the creature eats the food, you must wait for the taming bar to fill up.
Knockout Taming
The Knockout taming is specifically designed for aggressive creatures like dinosaurs. You need to knock out the creatures and feed them food until they’re tamed. You can see a bar for “Torpidity” on the creature stats. Your main goal is to deplete this bar before reducing the dinosaur health bar. Once done, the animal will become tranquilized. This allows you to proceed with the taming process, so add the food in your inventory. You can use several weapons for additional torpidity damage. Club is a straightforward weapon that you can use to tame the animals. This is a melee weapon, allowing you to tackle the creature in close range.
You don’t need to kill the creature to tame it. Make sure your stamina is full as they can attack you as well. Can use the Bolas to tame the creatures, allowing you to immobilize them. You can then deal damage with the club to lower its health pool. Wait for the taming bar to fill before the Unconscious bar reduces. Add the food from your inventory to its inventory. However, the taming bar will not fill if you choose the incorrect food.
Passive Taming
This method is only for taming the herbivores and special creatures. You need to approach it and feed it manually. Place the food in your far-right slot of your hotbar and get closer to the creature carefully. Press the LMB on the Feed button when prompted. You need to wait for the creature to get hungry again and repeat until tamed. Gacha can feed stone and Equus feed Rockarrots, but you’re required to ride it while taming. Food you feed to the creature is akin to knocking it unconscious with a violent tame.
- Armadoggo- Use raw meat, raw prime, mutton, or kibble.
- Gasbags- Use Mejoberries, Crops, or regular Berries to tame them.
- Velonasaur- Fill it with meat, like Mutton, or some Regular Augmented Kibble to tame.
- Gacha- You can tame them by throwing structures like metal or ceilings in front of them.

Notable Artifacts & Dossiers in Extinction
There are several Artifacts and Dossiers in the Extinction DLC for Ark: Survival Evolved. These items are related to the storyline, Titans, and unique creatures in the game. Here are all the Artifacts that you can obtain while progressing in the Extinction.
- Chaos- This Artifact is only found on the Extinction map in the Desert Cave along with the terminal to summon the Desert Titan. The cave entrance is located on the water side of the map. You will encounter various creatures, including Onyx once you’re inside. To get your hands on the Artifact of Chaos, you need to remove the threats. We recommend you silently grab the artifact and then get out of there.
- Growth- This Artifact is found in the Forest Cave along with the terminal to summon the Forest Titan. You can find it up on a ledge in front of the terminal. It is one of three Artifacts on the Extinction map. Look for a cave entrance in the Sunken Forest, near a lake and a ramp.
- Void- You can get this Artifact from the Extinction map in the Ice Cave along with the terminal to summon the Ice Titan. You need to navigate and fight with several creatures. This cave is filled with Yetis, Polar Bears, Direwolves, and Polovias, which can jump out of nowhere. Use the Managarm or a tech suit for mobility and avoid the creatures.
The Dossiers provide background on creatures and Titans. This is written by Helena Walker to document the research of Extinction’s creatures. You can find them in The Island, Scorched Earth, Aberration, and Extinction. The Dossiers describe the behavior and habits of all creatures. There’s no direct relation between the dossier’s release date or the creature’s release date. You can collect them simply by walking or flying near them. Extinction dossiers appear on a corrupted element background. Some dossiers are obtained by defeating bosses.
Extinction Boss Fights and Arenas

The arenas that appear in DLC: Extinction are King Titan Arena, Desert Titan Arena, Ice Titan Arena, and Forest Titan Arena. The bosses are summoned within the map as they are not found in their arenas.
Desert Titan Arena
The Desert Dome is a region in the Extinction DLC that has the Red Obelisk and the Desert Cave, leading to the Desert Titan Terminal. This area is extremely dangerous at times. Desert Titan is also known as Sky Titan, which is a 5,000 aggressive creature. Its arena is not a specific location, but rather the open area where it spawns. You need to guide the Titan’s lightning attacks with a Quetzal to tame the Desert Titan.
All the nearby Survivors and Creatures will be teleported back to the Arena after activating the terminal within Desert Cave. Once the Desert Titan is fully materialized, it will start attacking. Keep in mind that there is a 6-hour timer to summon another Desert Titan. The timer will still count down if the Desert Titan is still alive and tamed. You need the following items to open the Desert Titan Portal and summon Desert Titan.
- Artifact of Chaos x1
- Corrupt Heart x100
- Fire Talon x10
- Sarcosuchus Skin x10
King Titan Arena
The King Titan Arena is located within the Forbidden Zone to battle the final boss of the Expansion Pack. The King Titan will slowly materialize in front of the players after activating the terminal. You need to defeat the boss within the 60-minute timer. The King Titan, along with the portal vanishes when the timer expires, so you need to move out. An artifact will appear near the corpse after you defeat this boss.
The King Titan Terminal is at the coordinates of 03.4, 49.2. When the boss dies, the corrupted creatures spawned in from a Corrupt Tumor dissipate into a cloud. Use Mek shields to protect against the King Titan’s attacks. Focus on attacking his fist to prevent him from striking. You need to keep the titans on neutral in case of emergencies. You can also use tames like Basilisks or Reaper Kings as distractions. There’s a good loot along with the M.O.M.I. The items required to summon the King Titan are:
- Alpha Tyrannosaur Tooth
- Corrupt Heart
- Giganotosaurus Heart
- Spinosaurus Sail
- Titanoboa Venom
- Desert Titan Trophy
- Forest Titan Trophy
- Ice Titan Trophy
- King Titan Trophy (Gamma)
- King Titan Trophy (Beta)
Ice Titan Arena
The Ice Titan Arena is created within the Snow Dome for battling the Ice Titan in the game. All the closer survivors and creatures are teleported back once you activate the terminal within Ice Cave. When the Ice Titan is fully materialized, the boss starts attacking you. Just like other bosses, you need to defeat it in 60 minutes. The Ice Titan has corrupted nodules on its body that need to be destroyed to tame it.
You can interact with the fallen Titan to initiate the taming process once you defeat its nodules. This boss has a powerful frost attack that can freeze you in place. Ice Titan can jump into the air and can move underwater. It’s best to run around the Ice Titan while damaging it because it deals melee damage in combat. Make sure to equip yourself with a strong weapon. The items required to open the Ice Titan Portal and summon Ice Titan are:
- Artifact of the Void
- Corrupt Heart
- Spinosaurus Sail
- Therizino Claws
Forest Titan Arena
The Forest Titan arena in the Ark: Survival Evolved Extinction map is located in the Sunken Forest. This is near a large lake and a smaller one, roughly at coordinates 12.3, 9. The Forest Titan will spawn within this cave after collecting the required materials to summon it. The Forest Titan Arena is created within the UnderForest for fighting the boss of the DLC: Extinction. All the creatures and survivors are teleported back to the arena once you activate the terminal within Forest Cave. You need to defeat the Forest Titan in 60 minutes. Use a Mech or a creature like a Stego with good stam for the fight. Its root attack will ground you and take you out of your Mech. The items required to open the Forest Titan Portal and summon the Forest Titan are:
- Tyrannosaurus Arm
- Artifact of Growth
- Corrupt Heart
- Sauropod Vertebra
