My Hero Academia dives deep into the intense relationship between heroes and villains, commenting on the flaws of both sides. Among the vast cast, the most polarizing hero who proves they aren’t always the “good guys” is Endeavor. As a deeply complex person, Endeavor has had several standout moments in My Hero Academia. Unfortunately, these haven’t always been good, with his past actions influencing his eventual character development.
Hence, here are 4 times Endeavor impressed the My Hero Academia fans and 4 other times he let them down.
4 Times Endeavor Impressed the My Hero Academia Fans
Endeavor may not be the most likable hero in My Hero Academia, but he is definitely among its most well-written ones. Combining this with his immense powers, the character has stunned fans on more than one occasion. These include:
1) Endeavor Defeats Hood

Right after becoming the new Number 1 Hero, Endeavor’s first major battle saw him fighting Hood, a high-end Nomu. When most common citizens were doubting Endeavor’s attitude and ability to replace All Might, he finally got the opportunity to prove himself.
Unfortunately, this was a task easier said than done. Hood was an intelligent Nomu with senses, strength, and regeneration far surpassing all other Nomus. Despite suffering injuries, Endeavor persisted, fully aware of the stakes of his fight and the citizens nearby.
In a moment that kept us at the edge of our seats, Endeavor decided to go to Plus Ultra. Using Prominence Burn, he completely destroyed Hood. This was an unbelievable hype moment that thoroughly impressed other characters and My Hero Academia fans.
2) Endeavor Apologizes to Natsuo

Endeavor doesn’t have the most positive history with his family, having put them through a lot of hardship. While his daughter and Shoto had warmed up to the hero when he was trying to make amends, Natsuo refused to do so.
He harbored deep resentment for his father’s abuse and neglect. When Natsuo was under threat by a villain named Ending later, his father jumped into action. With help from Shoto and Bakugo, the antagonist was defeated and Natsuo was safe.
At this point, Endeavor poured his heart out. He was fully honest, accepting his mistakes and even expressing how he wasn’t expecting immediate forgiveness. Rather, he wished to make amends continuously, which finally connected with his son. This moment proved to fans that he was making a sincere effort to change, even if the damage he caused could never be fully undone.
3) Endeavor Fights Tomura

In the Paranormal Liberation War, Endeavor led the heroes to their battle against Tomura and his group. After fighting Nomus and saving Mirko from Decay, the top hero finally gets the opportunity to face the main antagonist.
Determined to stop Tomura and All For One’s plans, Endeavor unleashed a brutal assault. However, Tomura’s body had evolved to an extremely powerful stage. Despite Endeavor unleashing various powerful attacks such as Hell Spider, Vanishing Fist, and Prominence Burn, the antagonist couldn’t be defeated.
Notwithstanding the result of the battle, this sequence showed how Endeavor had settled into his role as the Number 1 Hero. He fought Tomura while risking his life to protect society. Additionally, Endeavor also partnered with Shoto, Bakugo, and Deku during this battle. He displayed how far he had come and the trust he showed to the new generation.
4) Endeavor Doesn’t Give Up on Toya

One of the biggest twists of My Hero Academia came when Dabi revealed himself to be Toya Todoroki. As Endeavor’s son who was believed to be dead, his reveal and appearance in front of his father broke Endeavor.
Nevertheless, with the help of his family, Endeavor eventually picked himself up. Together, they fought Dabi in the final war, restraining the villain who used to be their loved one. Following the end of the chaos, Dabi was heavily injured and captured in a maximum security prison.
A now-retired Endeavor expressed his praise for Toya’s flames, saying that he would keep visiting his son every day. This displayed Endeavor’s wish to rejoin their family, a prospect that even got Toya’s heart racing. His initial struggle, eventual desperation and final attempt to make amends finally paid off in this scene.
It showed how Endeavor completely understood the consequences of his actions and would keep apologizing every day. At the same time, it also showed that those around him accepted his efforts.
4 Times Endeavor Disappointed the My Hero Academia Fans
While Endeavor ends up becoming a heroic figure, many argue that it isn’t enough to forgive his past sins. These actions have helped him become a layered and memorable character, but definitely do not show him in the best light.
1) Abused Shoto

One of Endeavor’s most infamous acts in My Hero Academia is the constant abuse he puts Shoto through. Fixed on his path to creating a perfect successor, he saw Shoto to be capable of fulfilling this role.
Therefore, Shoto was subjected to brutal training, enduring physical and emotional torment in pursuit of fulfilling Endeavor’s wishes. He was separated from his other siblings and couldn’t enjoy the love of his own mother. This caused deep-seated hatred in him for his father.
2) Mentally Broke Rei

Most of Endeavor’s cruel actions in My Hero Academia impacted his family. One of the most tragic instances of this was Endeavor’s relationship with Rei. Right from the beginning, he had married his wife for her ice powers, hoping to create the perfect Quirk.
Rei was put through constant pressure through Endeavor’s treatment of Toya and the other children. Despite her protests, he paid no mind, even shifting the blame on her. This caused Rei to implode, even harming Shoto in a moment of negligence.
She was soon placed into a mental institution after this, isolated from her children. While Rei does come back triumphantly during the final war, it is hard to forget what Endeavor made her experience.
3) Abandoned His Other Children

As indicated by extreme cases such as Dabi, all of Endeavor’s children apart from Shoto had been abandoned by him. He was completely focused on creating his perfect successor, paying no attention to Fuyumi, Natsuo, and Toya.
Toya was heartbroken by his father’s sudden disinterest in him once Shoto’s potential was revealed. This caused him to “die” by losing control of his flames. While Fuyumi was more kind and quick to forgive her father, Natsuo felt the impact of their abusive household.
He was sidelined but fully knew what his loved ones went through. Due to this, Natsuo took a long time to adjust to his father’s redemption. Endeavor’s neglect left severe wounds, making his role as a father one of his biggest failings.
4) His Obsession with All Might

The root cause of all of Endeavor’s cruelty was his obsession with All Might. Despite being competitors aiming for the spot of the top hero, Endeavor had an inferiority complex against the One For All user. He realized their difference in power, bitterly accepting he couldn’t surpass him.
Due to this, he came up with a new plan of creating a successor who would be more powerful than All Might. As a result, he married Rei, abused Shoto, and abandoned all his children. If Endeavor had never been so fixated on All Might, his life would have been shaped in a very different way.
