Final Fantasy 16 is finally out on PC, and it includes interesting features like the Eikon battles and a revamped combat system.
After a long wait, Final Fantasy 16 has finally been released for PC owners on September 17, 2024. The latest entry in the long-running Final Fantasy series features a whole new world to explore. If you haven’t played the game before and plan to jump in with the PC release, here are five things you need to know before playing Final Fantasy 16 on PC.
1) A New Real-Time Combat System
Upon its inception in 1987, Final Fantasy laid the blueprint for turn-based combat in RPGs. With the latest entry, however, the series has taken a big gamble and revamped the combat system. Final Fantasy 16 features real-time combat. It places significant emphasis on combos and crowd management. While divisive, this makes for a fresh Final Fantasy experience.
2) Do the Side Quests! They Offer Plenty of Rewards
As is the case with any modern-day RPG, Final Fantasy 16 comes loaded with side quests for you to tackle at your pace – and tackle them you must (at least we think so). The side quests are marked on the map by a green exclamation mark, and they reward you with new weapons and upgrade materials. And, if you are a player who seeks to uncover the secrets and stories hidden in the world, the side quests are non-negotiable.
3) A Single Character and No Party System
Previous games in the series were turn-based, and they also integrated a party of characters. FF16 switches this up by putting the spotlight on a single character.
You will have party members, but they will play far less of a role than they would have in previous entries. They will accompany you and act independently, a stark contrast to previous entries where you could pass commands to members. This does open up customization possibilities, allowing you to alter your character and craft a unique playstyle since you won’t have to stick to party classes.
4) Keep Track of the World with Active Time Lore
The world of FF16 is a complex one. There are over a 1000 characters in the universe, lore that runs very deep, and events keep unfolding before your eyes. With so much to keep track of, all while mowing down monsters, you may find yourself feeling overwhelmed. To sort this out, Square Enix has put in a Active Time Lore feature. It logs all the characters you meet, their locations, and their relation to the game’s protagonist.
5) Take It Slow With the Eikon Battles
Eikon Battles are the newest introduction to the series. These are large-scale, cinematic battles fought between god-like summons at a city-level scale. They are unlike anything the series has done before.
These battles put you in control of god-like entities pitted against one another. They are slower but far more hard-hitting and destructive. All Eikon battles play out differently as the Eikons wield different powers. You must take a step back and strategize accordingly.
