After almost a year and a half since its release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, God Of War Ragnarok PC is set to launch on September 19, 2024. Ragnarok puts players in Kratos’s shoes and takes them across the Nine Realms in what is the final chapter of the God of War Norse saga.

To aid you in your crusade, we have compiled a list of five things you should know before you play God of War Ragnarok on PC. These will be helpful for both God of War fans and those new to the franchise.

1) Use The Recap Feature And Brush Up On Your Lore

You may have played God of War when it was released on console in 2018, or later when it came to PC early in 2022. Or, you may have never played it at all. Either way, with a story this complex – involving several gods, realms and entities – there is a lot to keep track of. Thankfully, the developers have added a story recap feature in Ragnarok that you can access from the main menu.

2) Side Quests Are Your Best Friend

Side Quests, or Favors, are given to you periodically throughout God of War Ragnarok. Characters in need of assistance approach Kratos and give him a task to do. You must make it a point to do as many of them as possible since there are valuable upgrades and rewards locked behind the Favors.

Furthermore, you will discover lore that will expand on the world of God of War Ragnarok. These quests take you to new parts of the map and lead you to optional bosses.

3) Master Your Weapons and Combos

It goes without saying that you must master your blade to have a smooth journey in God of War Ragnarok (well, as smooth as it can be, anyway). One useful tip is to integrate the Serpent Snare in the midst of a regular combo.

The Serpent Snare, or the charged heavy attack, deals a load of damage, but do take note of its long wind up time. Often, the latter can lead you to miss your target entirely. To avoid this, use the Serpent Snare towards the end of a regular combo by holding R2. This will negate the wind up and let you deal the same amount of damage without any downsides.

4) Revisit Blocked Paths You Encounter

Frequently, while exploring an area in the game, you will come across what clearly looks like a pathway but is blocked one way or another. Such paths are locked behind abilities and upgrades that you will unlock as you play through the game. Once you’ve unlocked the necessary ability, return to the blocked area and check it out.

5) The Adventure Doesn’t End with Ragnarok

If you simply cannot get enough of Kratos’s Norse adventures, there’s good news for you. The Valhalla DLC was released as a free-of-cost expansion for the game. With roguelite elements, it serves as an epilogue to the main story.

The game throws you into randomized enemy encounters, and you earn currency and upgrades. Once you die, you start over again but retain certain skills from your last run. The mode serves as an adequate test for those that wish to master the game’s combat.
