Starfield’s Shattered Space takes place on an entirely new planet and offers a separate experience from the main story quests in the game.
Starfield will have players continue their trek through space with the release of its Shattered Space DLC this month. The DLC is set to bring several new vehicles, locations, and quests, much to everyone’s excitement. However, some players, who are still cruising through the main game, are wondering it they need to finish the primary game first in order to play the Shattered Space DLC. The answer is a resounding no.
Staying true to the precedent set by previous Bethesda DLCs, Shattered Space is a standalone story set on an entirely new planet, isolated from the events of the main game. Much like Skyrim’s Dawnguard or Dragonborn DLC, the story can be experienced at any point in the game.
What To Do Before You Begin the Shattered Space DLC
The Shattered Space DLC will put House Va’ruun under the spotlight. The story will kick off after players visit a derelict ship. Investigating the ship will lead players to this mysterious House and their home city of Dazra on the planet Va’ruun’kai.
Since the DLC will revolve around House Var’ruun, players should ideally finish the companion quest of Andreja, who is from House Var’uun and is sure to play a role in the story when players visit her home planet. Finishing her companion quest will give players better insight into the workings of House Var’ruun and its lore.
To complete her companion quest, you must increase the Affinity level by taking her along on quests. After you pass a certain Affinity threshold, her companion quest, Divided Loyalties, will begin. In this quest, Andreja seeks to reconnect with people from her past, and this mission adds a backstory to the planet Va’ruun’kai and House Var’ruun. The Divided Loyalties quest dives into the lore of Var’ruun Zealots and their ties to the House.
Bethesda will release Shattered Space, the first expansion of Starfield, on September 30, 2024. Players are especially excited about the addition of the brand new REV-8 vehicle.
