The Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga series has progressed considerably over the past few months. Currently, the manga features a ton of action, and every character has exhibited a decent increase in their combat abilities. The likes of Boruto have shown a substantial amount of improvement, surpassing prime Sasuke’s fighting abilities.

When this is the direction in which the plot is heading, it’s hard to explore romantic relationships in these scenarios. However, some of the characters in the series have expressed romantic interest in certain individuals.

One such character is Sumire. She was introduced quite early in the series. She has grown quite a bit, as she has shown maturity and her combat abilities have improved as well. However, the recent conversation with Sarada indicated something intriguing, and fans had one question in mind: does Sumire love Boruto? Yes, Sumire is in love with Boruto.

This is a question that fans seemed to have in mind when Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 16 was released. The chapter finally gave Eida some screen time. The fanbase was also happy to see her and Shikamaru work together because they wanted the protagonist to be safeguarded from Konohagakure’s manhunt.

However, netizens seemed to focus almost entirely on a conversation that took place in Eida’s presence. She was sitting with Sumire and Sarada, and the two were attempting to devise a plan to save Boruto. Sarada Uchiha wants to help him because she is in love with him. However, Sumire saw that Sarada was the type of person who would act based on her feelings, and this upset her.

She was upset at Sarada for leaping into Boruto’s arms despite knowing that Sumire was in love with him. It stung her even more because she was right there when Sarada leaped into him. Her conversation with Sarada is proof that she is in love with Boruto in the Two Blue Vortex manga series.

Sumire Kakei has confessed to having romantic feelings for the protagonist. However, the manga is at a stage where such relationships can’t be explored. There is too much at stake, and the village is under attack. Despite that, Sumire has romantic rivals in the manga series. The most obvious romantic rival is Sarada Uchiha, who has clearly shown an interest in Boruto. She was never the type to outright confess in the manga. However, actions speak louder than words, and in this case, it’s clear that Sarada is in love with Boruto.

Another romantic rival in this case would be Eida. She was interested in Boruto and Kawaki. This was also why she came down to Konohagakure. The village also assigned Sarada and Sumire to a mission to monitor Eida. Therefore, it’s safe to say that both of the aforementioned characters are Sumire’s romantic rivals in the Two Blue Vortex manga series.

Since Sumire has a romantic interest in the protagonist, netizens are curious about the nature of their relationship. Those who aren’t well-versed in the manga series want to know if the protagonist reciprocates these feelings. These two characters haven’t particularly interacted all that much in the manga. Based on what little interactions we have seen, it’s safe to assume that they share a platonic relationship.

The protagonist doesn’t reciprocate the feelings that Sumire has for him, and it’s highly unlikely that he will in the future as well. When Sarada Uchiha hugged him, it seemed like the protagonist was happy to hold her in his arms. It’s quite possible that he might choose to explore a romantic relationship with Sarada Uchiha. However, there is no time to do that right now since the village is in danger thanks to the Shinju entities who are out to hunt their respective targets.

Sumire attempting to get over her heartbreak could be one of the elements of her character development as the series progresses. One thing is clear: Konohagakure needed every capable shinobi on the frontlines defending against the likes of Jura and his lackeys.

Sumire’s Role in Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

It’s hard to assess the exact role assigned to her in the story. She was never really pertinent to the overarching story. However, things changed when she and Sarada were the only ones who were not affected by Eida’s Omnipotence. This put her in the spotlight because one of the Divine Techniques didn’t work on her. This implies that Sumire might have some latent potential that could be revealed in the story.

Assuming this is the case, Sumire might be an important deuteragonist as the series progresses. Her progression during the time skip might be better than what people initially anticipated. If this is not the case, Sumire will take on the role of another background character.

The second scenario is more likely as the immunity towards Eida’s Omnipotence could be due to Sumire’s love for Boruto. Being a romantic rival might have an effect on the potency of Eida’s technique. Her technique was activated because of a deep desire to help someone she loves. Either way, Sumire would either be a deuteragonist or a side character who won’t be as important when the story reaches the business end.

Conclusion

It’s quite clear that Sumire is in love with Boruto. However, it is unlikely that the protagonist will reciprocate those feelings. While it might be heartbreaking for fans of this character, she will have to overcome the feelings of experiencing her first-ever heartbreak.

That being said, she needs to put a pause on her pursuit since her help will be vital in defending Konohagakure against Jura and his lackeys. Kashin Koji has warned Shikamaru, stating that there is absolutely no one who can take him on. Therefore, Sumire will continue aiding Sarada and Shikamaru in their efforts to contain the situation at hand.
