Take a look at the actual age of Nezuko in Demon Slayer, her life before becoming a Demon, her fate at the end of the series, and more.

The Demon Slayer series introduced one of the most iconic and adorable little sisters in anime history – Nezuko Kamado, Tanjiro Kamado’s younger sister. From the very first episode of the anime, she stood out from the rest of the Demons. This was not just because of her adorable looks or a bamboo muzzle in her mouth, but because she was the polar opposite of what a Demon was typically supposed to be.
Unlike the rest of the man-eating, bloodthirsty creatures of the night, Nezuko resisted her demonic urges – making her the greatest anomaly in the world of Demon Slayer. That being said, fans have often wondered about her actual age in the series, especially since she looks exactly the same from the beginning to the very end.
To answer the question, Nezuko was 12 years old at the beginning of the series. However, her body never really aged at all, due to the unusual traits of Demon biology. By the time Tanjiro completed his training under Sakonji Urokodaki, which lasted for about 2 years since the beginning of the story, Nezuko should have been 14 years old. However, since Demons don’t age like humans, she remained physically the same as when she was first turned into a Demon. Even though she should have been around 15 years old by the end of the series, she physically still looked like she was 12 years old.
How Did Nezuko Become a Demon?

Nezuko Kamado was turned into a Demon at the very beginning of the story. One night, while Tanjiro Kamado was away selling charcoal to provide for his family, the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji showed up at the Kamado household and massacred the entire family. Every single member of the family was brutally murdered, except for Nezuko, who somehow managed to survive despite being gravely injured.
However, her survival wasn’t a miracle in the slightest. Apparently, Muzan had injected her with his Demon blood, which turned her into one of the flesh-eating monsters. That said, unlike most Demons, Nezuko didn’t completely lose herself to her bloodlust.
She relentlessly held on to the last remaining bits of her humanity, making her an anomaly among Demons. Fortunately, Urokodaki helped direct her instinct to protecting humans instead of eating them, thus making her one of the few Demons who fought alongside humanity against Muzan and the Upper Moons.
Nezuko’s Life Before Becoming a Demon

Before she was turned into the adorable Demon we all have come to adore, Nezuko was just a normal girl living in the mountains with her family. She was the eldest daughter of the Kamado family. We should also keep note of the fact that she was a year younger than her brother Tanjiro. After their father passed away, Tanjiro spent a lot of time away from home to sell charcoal to provide for his family.
On the other hand, Nezuko helped their mother take care of the household and her younger siblings. Like her brother, she was kind, caring, and a genuine person. However, these traits didn’t disappear even after she was turned into a Demon. In fact, the likely reason as to why Nezuko didn’t turn out like the other Demons can be answered pretty easily – unlike most Demons, she was not broken by her transformation.
She fought hard to keep her humanity and didn’t give in to rage, grief, or the insatiable hunger for human flesh that comes with being a Demon. Even after she was turned into a Demon, deep down, Nezuko remained a kind and caring sister who just wanted to protect her family.
The Significance of Nezuko’s Age in Demon Slayer

In Demon Slayer, Nezuko’s age is certainly an important aspect of her character. It reflected a crucial part of her character – her being frozen in time. Unlike her brother, who grows and matures a lot throughout the series, Nezuko was stuck at 12 years of age.
She also had to keep a bamboo muzzle in her mouth. As such, she couldn’t talk or interact much with others either. While this aspect of her character is certainly tragic, it goes to show just how strong and resilient Nezuko is mentally.
Does Nezuko Become a Human Again by the End of Demon Slayer?

Fans who had been following Tanjiro and Nezuko’s journey since Day One can rest assured – after everything the sibling duo went through and endured, Nezuko does finally turn back into a human by the end of the Demon Slayer series. This is all thanks to the efforts of Tamayo, a Demon doctor. She managed to develop a cure that allowed Nezuko to gradually revert back to her human form.
This climactic development took place during the Demon Slayers’ final battle against Muzan Kibutsuji in the Sunrise Countdown arc. That said, credit where credit is due – this process would not have been possible without Nezuko’s efforts to remain human. After she became human again, Nezuko started aging as well.
Conclusion
Over the course of the Demon Slayer series, fans have come to love and cherish Nezuko Kamado as the adorable little sister in the box. She was also living proof that it was possible to fight back against the curse of being a Demon.
Her character arc throughout the series was undoubtedly one of the most satisfying arcs in the entirety of Demon Slayer. She certainly did not have as much dialogue as compared to the likes of Zenitsu or Inosuke. However, her adorable antics made a lasting impact on the fanbase.
