Discover how strong Makima is in Chainsaw Man as we explore her strength, notable feats, and plans for Denji.
Makima was arguably the most hated Chainsaw Man character and the cause behind most of Denji’s misgivings. Through her manipulative nature, she took advantage of Denji’s naivety while pushing him to the brink of sanity. Coupled with her supernatural abilities, there were not many people who could put a stop to her plans in Chainsaw Man either. So, how strong is Makima in Chainsaw Man?
Makima was one of the most powerful figures in the series, armed with both strength and intellect. Let us take a closer look at her character.
Makima’s Powers in Chainsaw Man
Rather than being a human who formed a contract with a Devil, Makima was the Control Devil herself. This gave her a variety of abilities including:
1) Control –
As the Control Devil, Makima’s most obvious ability was to control the will of others. She could brainwash any being, human or Devil, into doing her bidding. Along with stealing the autonomy of her targets, Makima could make use of their powers. For instance, with chains connected to her body, Makima controlled Reze, Quanxi, and several other Devils into using their abilities.
Makima could also use the senses of animals. As seen in the Bomb Girl Arc, she borrowed rats to spy on Denji and Reze.
2) Invisible Force –
Makima controlled an invisible force that could crush her targets. She had used this against Power while pointing her fingers similar to a gun. This could be used as a high-scale destructive technique identical to the Darkness Devil.
By using the Sacrifice Ritual, she also killed targets at random places from Sawatari’s gang using human sacrifices.
3) Immortality –
Due to her deal with the Japanese Government, Makima was connected to every citizen in the country. This meant that even if she was harmed or killed, someone else would take the damage. When paired with the high rate of fear her Devil inflicted on the population, she was near-immortal.
4) Enhanced Senses –
Apart from her unique abilities, Makima was much stronger and more durable than the average person. She healed quickly and was good enough at combat to defeat Denji on her own. She saw humans as inferior, and couldn’t differentiate between them through sight but relied on her smell.
Makima’s Notable Feats in Chainsaw Man
Makima was an extremely influential figure in Chainsaw Man and had several feats in the series. Her more positive feat was to defeat the Gun Devil by using Devil Hunters such as Aki and Angel. Being the head of her Division in the Public Safety Hunter Organization, she oversaw dangerous Devils being dealt with on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, most of Makima’s notable feats in the series were extremely negative and caused a lot of pain to Denji. She had saved Denji, became his first love, and went on to emotionally manipulate him throughout the series.
While Reze was the first positive influence on Denji in Chainsaw Man, Makima killed her before she could run away with him. She also orchestrated the death of Denji’s close friend, Aki, by letting him become the Gun Fiend and forcing Denji to kill him.
Later, Makima killed Power in front of Denji’s eyes, making him lose his final friend in the series. By breaking his heart constantly, she was able to bring out the true Chainsaw Man in the Control Devil Arc and fought him by using multiple other Devils.
Overall, her feats in Chainsaw Man made her a highly feared individual among the characters and the fans as well.
Makima’s Plans for Denji in Chainsaw Man
Makima’s actions in Chainsaw Man stemmed from her obsession with the Chainsaw Devil. As the only Devil capable of giving permanent death to other devils and erasing them, she was a huge fan of Pochita. She wished to use this ability and erase any devil that caused suffering to create a “perfect” world.
However, since Pochita had a contract with Denji, Makima felt that the Chainsaw Devil had been tainted. Through her plans, she wished to inflict tragedy and pain upon Denji after making him feel happiness.
With this, she would put his psyche through torture and make him break his deal with Pochita. Makima could then control the Chainsaw Devil’s powers for her goals.
How Strong Is Makima in the Chainsaw Man Universe?
Makima was one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse—a group of the strongest and most influential Devils. Gaining her strength from people’s fear of control, she reflected the societal pressures that forced others to submit themselves. Since this was a common feeling among many, Makima was unsurprisingly extremely powerful.
In Chainsaw Man, there are only two devils commonly believed by the fandom to be more powerful than Makima. These are the Darkness Devil and the Chainsaw Devil. The Darkness Devil embodied the primal fear of the dark and significantly damaged Makima during the International Assassins Arc.
The Chainsaw Devil was feared by both humans and Devils. He could eliminate Devils permanently. Moreover, Denji’s Chainsaw Man finally defeated and killed Makima.
Despite losing in the series, Makima’s strength was a force to be reckoned with. With the Control Devil returning in Chainsaw Man Part 2, fans fear that we could potentially see the dangerous villain making her return.
Conclusion
To conclude, Makima’s strength in Chainsaw Man transcended mere physical power. She represented the oppressive force of domination and had every character in the series dancing to her tunes. The heartbreaks caused by her and her trail of destruction make her an unforgettably powerful character.
