In Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia, Shigaraki Tomura is one of the most powerful villains the series has introduced. As the leader of the League of Villains and later the Paranormal Liberation Front, Shigaraki’s strength has grown over time.

What makes Shigaraki so powerful? He has a deadly power called Decay that lets him destroy things, and he got even stronger after receiving buffs from the villain All For One and a scientist named Dr. Garaki. He’s now so strong that he can fight many heroes at once and cause serious damage.

Abilities

Shigaraki’s original Quirk, Decay, allows him to disintegrate anything he touches with all five fingers. When he first appeared, Shigaraki could only use Decay on objects or people he directly touched. However, as he grew stronger, his control over the Quirk improved, and he gained the ability to spread Decay to anything connected to what he touched. This chain reaction makes Decay one of the most destructive Quirks in the series.

For example, during the Paranormal Liberation War, Shigaraki used Decay to destroy an entire city. The heroes and civilians caught in the attack had little chance to escape, showing how dangerous he has become. Decay’s sheer power makes it a perfect weapon for large-scale destruction and chaos.

Enhanced Physical Stats

Dr. Garaki performed a dangerous operation on Shigaraki that made his body much stronger than a typical person’s. After this surgery, Shigaraki became so strong that he could fight for a long time without getting tired, and most attacks barely hurt him.

This new strength was clear during the Paranormal Liberation War when Shigaraki fought powerful heroes like Endeavor and Eraser Head all at once. He was overwhelmingly strong that even when these powerful top heroes attacked him together, he could still fight back easily.

All For One’s Powers

Shigaraki became even stronger after he got the power of All For One’s powers. This power lets him steal and use other people’s powers. Because he can use so many different powers, it’s very hard for heroes to fight against him—he always has a way to counter their attacks.

Some of the quirks Shigaraki gained include:

  • Super Regeneration: This allows him to heal from injuries almost instantly, making him incredibly hard to defeat.
  • Air Cannon: This quirk lets him create powerful blasts of air to attack enemies from a distance.
  • Search: With this ability, Shigaraki can locate and track people, even in large crowds or hidden locations.
  • Radio Waves: This quirk gives him the power to disrupt radio wave signal transmission, thereby stopping communication devices from functioning well.
  • Danger Sense: This ability allows him to detect incoming threats and react to them before they reach him.
  • Heavy Payload: This ability allows Tomura to increase the damage his attacks deal.

Some of these quirks might not be impressive on their own, but with some of his other quirks, they can be really dangerous to heroes. The additional quirks also give Shigaraki a larger arsenal of abilities. This makes him a versatile and unpredictable opponent, capable of taking on multiple heroes and adapting to their strategies.

Personality

Leadership and Strategy

Shigaraki’s power isn’t just physical. Over time, he has grown into a capable leader and strategist. All For One taught Shigaraki how to be a good leader and plan big attacks against heroes. One example is when Shigaraki combined his villain group with another called the Meta Liberation Army to create an even bigger group—the Paranormal Liberation Front. This new group had thousands of members who followed Shigaraki’s orders. His ability to lead such a massive force shows that his power extends beyond just fighting.

Mental Strength and Determination

What makes Shigaraki truly powerful is his strong will and determination. As a child, he lost his family in a terrible way, leaving deep emotional wounds. But instead of letting this pain destroy him, he turned it into strength. His hatred for heroes and society grew from these painful memories, driving him to want to destroy everything.

This determination showed clearly when he went through an extremely painful surgery to become stronger. The procedure nearly killed him several times, but he refused to give up because he had an objective in mind. What makes him such a dangerous villain isn’t just his powers. It is that he’ll endure any pain or hardship to win. He’s gone from being a hurt child to becoming one of the most feared villains, all because of his unbreakable will.

Weaknesses

Even though Shigaraki is very strong, he’s not unbeatable. He often gets too confident and takes unnecessary risks because he thinks he can’t lose. Also, the hero Eraser Head can temporarily stop Shigaraki’s powers, making him vulnerable. Another weakness is that Shigaraki still relies a lot on All For One’s guidance, which means he might not be fully independent.

Another limitation is the strain on his body. While his enhancements and regeneration help him recover quickly, using multiple Quirks at once can exhaust him over time. Shigaraki has fought many strong heroes like Endeavor, Eraser Head, and Deku, proving how powerful he is. His fights with Deku are especially important because they represent opposite ideas. Deku fights to protect people and bring hope, while Shigaraki wants to destroy everything.

Conclusion

Shigaraki is one of My Hero Academia‘s strongest and most complicated villains. His decay power, physical strength, and stolen powers make him incredibly dangerous. Though he has some weaknesses, his growth as both a fighter and leader keeps him as one of the biggest threats in the series. The ongoing fights between him and the heroes will decide whether their world ends up being saved or destroyed.
