Black Myth: Wukong can be challenging to play, but the experience is immensely fulfilling.
Black Myth: Wukong is on the more challenging end of the difficulty spectrum. Seasoned gamers may find learning the game’s mechanics rather easy. They may even be able to breeze through certain enemies. But, at certain points, the game gets hard, and players are repeatedly tested. Certain bosses like the Yellow Wind Sage and the Red Loong can give anyone a fair bit of trouble during their first playthrough.
In this article, we will explore how difficult Black Myth: Wukong really is and how you can make the best of it.
How hard is Black Myth: Wukong to beat?
To be truthful, Black Myth: Wukong is not immensely hard despite the occasional spikes in difficulty. It does take inspiration from the Soulsbourne games in certain ways. For example, a Keeper’s Shrine acts similar to a Sculptor’s Idol from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. However, the gameplay feels markedly different. The combat system is not Soulslike as it lets players deal a lot of damage, promotes aggressive play, and can be quite forgiving. There’s no penalty for dying.
That said, you cannot afford to slack around. Black Myth: Wukong bosses come in various forms and their attack patterns vary. You must be ready to change your playstyle and adapt to every fight on the go. Most bosses are quite aggressive when you first encounter them. Their long attack chains can be tough to dodge and effectively counter if you do not have a plan.
Another layer of difficulty comes in the form of the exploration required to experience the game fully. In Black Myth: Wukong, you can access certain secret areas only after fulfilling the associated requirement. One example of this is the Red Loong fight, which you can unlock only with a specific item. Players may end up missing out on some of the content the game has to offer if they aren’t proactive.
The game does not come with a difficulty setting, but there are ways you can make your journey easier. Utilize items and Spells to the fullest. For example, the Immobilize Spell lets you freeze your enemies, including bosses, in place for a short period of time. Additionally, the game boasts many quality-of-life features, including the ability to respec Sparks. There’s no limit on this, so you can freely experiment with different builds and playstyles.
Black Myth Wukong is nowhere near impossible to beat. You have to master the mechanics, learn the map, and prove your mettle in combat, but the journey itself is very rewarding.
