Is Genos dead in One Punch Man? Let’s take a look at the status of the S-class cyborg hero in the Animanga series.
The One Punch Man series has given viewers and readers a plethora of characters to choose from and like. Fans usually prefer characters that have an interesting personality or strong sense of justice. There is one character in particular who checks both these boxes, and that character is Genos.
Genos is a cyborg who was introduced in the very first season of the anime series. He is a deuteragonist who also happens to be a self-declared student of Saitama’s. The cyborg is an S-class hero who depends on the weaponry that was installed by Dr. Kuseno. He is Genos’ trusted doctor who fixes him up before big missions and ensures that the hero has the latest updates from a combat standpoint.
The manga has progressed a lot farther in comparison to the anime adaptation. Based on certain discussions surrounding the Monster Association Arc, there is one question that has been haunting anime-only fans: Is Genos dead in One Punch Man? In short, no, Genos is not dead in the One Punch Man series. However, the Monster Association Arc features a few incidents that resulted in Genos’ momentary death. However, he was saved later on in the series.
Is Genos Dead in One Punch Man
At the moment, Genos is not dead in the One Punch Man series. However, he was dead momentarily during the Monster Association Arc. This is the story arc that season 3 will cover. However, it also happens to be the longest story arc, which means season 3 will not cover the entirety of it. It is important to note that the cyborg is alive at the time of writing. However, he was dead for a while in the manga.
This was due to the fight that took place between Garou and Saitama. There was plenty of collateral damage. The Caped Baldy was the only hero left toward the end of the fight. Garou not only undergoes complete monsterization, but he also accepts God’s powers partially. This allows Garou to understand the flow of all energy in the cosmos. This, in turn, granted Garou the ability to recreate nuclear fission and fusion in his attacks.
Genos was killed during this fight, forcing Saitama to take things seriously. The Caped Baldy quite literally kicked portals, blew up a planet, and defeated Garou. The latter came to his senses and realized all the mistakes he had made. He taught Saitama to travel back in time. Saitama went back in time and defeated Garou before things got out of hand. He not only saved Genos, but every other hero that was present there. Once again, Genos is well and alive in the One Punch Man series, all thanks to Saitama’s efforts.
Who Attempted To Kill Genos in One Punch Man
Garou was the man responsible for Genos’ brief death in the series. Following his monsterization, Garou accepted a portion of God’s powers. This resulted in a new form called the Cosmic Fear Mode. Garou was more powerful than he ever was. He went toe-to-toe with Blast and stated that the top-ranked hero wasn’t even worth his time. Genos attempted to save Silver Fang from Garou. The Hero Hunter took Genos and ripped out his core. This killed the cyborg in the One Punch Man manga. This was a calculated move since he wanted the Caped Baldy to show his full potential against him.
Garou was hell-bent on wanting to defeat Saitama, which is why he killed his apprentice. However, the fight did not go his way because of two very important points—Saitama exhibited constant growth and he had infinite potential. This means that the Caped Baldy is growing as a combatant every second. Garou ultimately lost the battle and realized all the mistakes he had made after seeing Tareo die. This was when he taught Saitama to travel back in time to save all the heroes that were present there.
Genos’ Power Levels in One Punch Man
In his current state, Genos is capable of taking on Dragon-level threats by himself. Every time he is beaten up, Dr. Kuseno not only fixes him up but also upgrades his tech substantially. His upgrades in the webcomic chapters were exceptional, to say the least. Unfortunately, Dr. Kuseno ends up dying in the One Punch Man series.
However, he leaves Genos with a massive upgrade, that he considers a secret weapon. This is stronger than the upgrades that granted him the win against The Extended Family of Darkness. This should allow him to take on threats that are high dragon-level at the very least. It will be interesting to see his powers grow as the series progresses.
Genos’ Status in the One Punch Man Manga
Genos had a substantial role to play in the Monster Association Arc. He took on plenty of strong opponents like Garou. However, the cyborg was sidelined in the manga for quite some time. The conclusion of the aforementioned arc was followed by the Neo Heroes Saga. Here, Genos was part of a couple of fun interactions involving Flashy Flash and Saitama. He is serious all the time and takes his role as an apprentice quite seriously.
There are a couple of interesting events in the webcomic. Genos defends Saitama from Blue, a neo-hero who wanted to take down a monsterized Sweet Mask. The cyborg stated that the rules of the Hero Association did not confine Saitama. Later on, Dr. Kuseno gives Genos a massive upgrade. Unfortunately, the doctor is fatally wounded by a swarm of advanced robots.
Was Genos’ Family Murdered in One Punch Man
Yes, Genos’ family was brutally murdered by a crazed cyborg. Genos’ goal has been to not only track down but find the true identity of the murderer. The cyborg in question also killed everyone else in his village. Genos was saved by Dr. Kuseno, and that’s when he turned into a cyborg. While the identity of the murderer has not been revealed, speculations suggest that the murderer could be tied to Metal Knight.

Genos is alive and kicking in the One Punch Man series. However, he was killed for a brief period of time. Garou was responsible for his death in the Monster Association Arc. However, Saitama managed to defeat Garou, travel back in time, and save the heroes who died there. Since then, Genos has gotten stronger and received plenty of updates to his weapons system.
