Since Kagaya Ubuyashiki is a blood relative of Muzan, the entire clan is cursed. However, this is also the very reason why he has the gift of foresight. Kagaya Ubuyashiki used this gift to save countless lives, and it ultimately led to the death of Muzan at the end of the chapter. It is interesting to note that male members of the Ubuyashiki Clan resemble Muzan. Their facial structure and complexion are quite similar in the anime and manga series.
The Ubuyashiki Clan’s Curse
As mentioned earlier, the Ubuyashiki Clan was afflicted with an unknown curse. This was because the clan was related to the first-ever demon that came into existence. Naturally, members of this clan visited a priest. The priest stated that they would be able to live for longer if the male members married the girl chosen by the priest. This helped the male members live until the beginning stages of adulthood. The priest also revealed that the curse would not stop plaguing the clan until Muzan was killed.
The lineage needed to be cleansed and this could be done by killing Muzan. This was when the Demon Slayer Corps was born. They created an organization with the sole intention of recruiting some of the most powerful demon hunters and utilizing their resources to vanquish all demons. The male members of the family would go on to lead the organization, bearing the title of “Oyakata-sama.” This is the title given to Kagaya Ubuyashiki during his time in the Demon Slayer Corps.
The Fate of Kagaya Ubuyashiki in Demon Slayer
The moment Kagaya Ubuyashiki was born, his family members knew that his time was limited. He was going to die quite early in his adulthood as the curse slowly killed them. However, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s resolve was displayed even in his dying moments. He is portrayed as a calm and collected individual who shows no anger. However, this was not the case when he encountered Muzan. His anger and frustration were quite visible. In fact, he had placed extremely powerful bombs all over his mansion. He anticipated a visit from Muzan.
After a brief conversation, Kagaya Ubuyashiki set off the bombs in Demon Slayer. It killed him in an instant and it burned Muzan’s skin and flesh momentarily. The leader of the Demon Slayer Corps knew that it wouldn’t be enough to hurt Muzan.
However, he did this to buy the demon hunters some time. He had enough faith in their abilities that he bought them a few seconds at the cost of his life. Kagaya Ubuyashiki died towards the end of the Hashira Training arc. Despite his death, his efforts played a role in the death of Muzan as well as saving countless human lives.
About Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s Children in Demon Slayer
Kagaya Ubuyashiki had five children in total, of which 4 were girls and 1 was a boy. Hinaki and Nichika were present in the Ubuyashiki Mansion when the bombs were set off. These two children died with their father and their mother. Kiriya is the only male child, who assumes the title of Oyakata-sama. Kuina and Kanata Ubuyashiki served Kiriya following their father’s death in the anime and manga series.
Despite their young age, the trio were forced to continue their father’s work almost immediately. Kiriya was overwhelmed at first, but he played a pivotal role in the manga. Kiriya, along with his sisters’ help, guided the demon hunters in the Infinity Castle. They were responsible for allocating the demon hunters for every Upper Moon demon that was present in the castle. This was vital because the Upper Moon demons had to be defeated without losing any of the demon hunters.
The damage done was minimal. Kiriya managed to help the demon hunters navigate through the labyrinth of a castle. In the end, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s children took over his responsibilities and brought home the victory.
