One Piece features a variety of powerful characters, many of whom have become formidable by using weapons ranging from swords to firearms. At the same time, some fighters don’t rely on external devices, solely using their Devil Fruit powers, Haki, and physical abilities. By honing their craft in these areas, they have risen to the pinnacle of strength in the series.
Hence, here are the 8 strongest One Piece characters who don’t use any weapons during battle. Please note that we have not considered weapons created out of one’s Devil Fruit abilities either. Hence, characters such as Kizaru, who fights using a sword of light, won’t be appearing.
8) Jinbe
Jinbe is a former Warlord of the Sea and a current member of the Straw Hat Pirates who is extremely reliable during battle. As a Fish-Man, Jinbe is gifted with a physicality that trumps his peers. He complements this with his prowess in Fish-Man Karate, having been a dedicated practitioner for years.
Through this, Jinbe can manipulate his surroundings and unleash devastating attacks without making direct contact. He could also apply it with Armament Haki and defend against Big Mom’s attack. Combining this with his experience, Observation of Haki, and keen insight on the battlefield, Jinbe can never be overlooked when the stakes are at their highest.
7) Charlotte Katakuri
Despite being an antagonist in the Whole Cake Island Arc, Katakuri won fans over with his caring nature and impressive powers. As Big Mom’s strongest commander, he is a genius in battle who is always one step ahead of his opponents.
This can directly be attributed to his advanced Observation Haki skill—Future Sight. As one of the few who can use this, Katakuri is able to glimpse into the future and take action to prevent negative outcomes. This greatly elevates his Mochi Mochi no Mi abilities, which let him reshape his body and deliver powerful mochi attacks.
Finally, Katakuri is also able to use Supreme King Haki and Armament Haki. With these, he dominated his battle against Luffy in the Mirror World until the protagonist’s sudden growth.
6) Vinsmoke Sanji
Sanji, the third strongest Straw Hat Pirate, is the left-hand man of Luffy. His profession may be that of a chef, but he is a very capable combatant. As a fighter, Sanji mainly uses the Black Leg Style, a leg-based martial art created by him.
Through this, he can deal quick, accurate, and potent kicks that are strong enough to break steel. Over the course of the series, Sanji has improved this style, generating flames through his legs and creating the Diable Jambe and Ifrit Jambe moves.
Sanji is also skilled in the use of Armament Haki and Observation Haki. With the powers he worked hard to achieve, he was even able to defeat the likes of Queen in Wano.
5) Portgas D. Ace
Luffy’s adoptive brother, Ace, may have tragically died in One Piece, but he remains one of the most talented and powerful characters in the series. Despite his young age, Ace was able to rapidly rise through the ranks and became one of Whitebeard’s strongest officers.
His Mera Mera no Mi gave him the nickname “Fire Fist Ace,” capable of clashing against Blackbeard on Banaro Island. Additionally, Ace was one of the few people in the world who could use all three forms of Haki.
Hence, had he not met an untimely end, his strength and influence would have played a significant role in the world today.
4) Akainu
Akainu, though among the most despised characters in One Piece, is also one of its strongest. As the current Fleet Admiral of the Marines, Akainu is a fearsome fighter driven by his ideals of Absolute Justice.
His Magu Magu no Mi gives him the powers of magma, allowing him to melt enemies, reshape landscapes, and regenerate from near-death situations. Akainu’s Armament Haki is powerful enough to block Whitebeard’s blows, while he also possesses Observation Haki.
With all his powers put together, he was capable of defeating Aokiji in Punk Hazard, permanently altering the weather of the island.
3) Sengoku
The former Fleet Admiral, Sengoku, is one of the most feared and respected figures in One Piece. Though we didn’t get to see him in battle many times, Sengoku is considered a legend in the Marine ranks.
His reputation is built upon his Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu. This allows him to transform into a giant golden Buddha, drastically enhancing his strength and senses. The shockwaves from each blow delivered by this form were capable of wiping out multiple members of the Blackbeard Pirates in the Marineford War.
Sengoku can also use all three forms of Haki, being only one of two Marines showing prowess in Supreme King Haki. This made him the only person capable of watching over Garp to ensure he didn’t interfere during Ace’s execution.
2) Monkey D. Garp
The hero of the Marines, Monkey D. Garp, is a force of unbelievable strength. In addition to not using any weapons during battle, Garp doesn’t have any Devil Fruits either. In spite of this, his sheer strength is so great that he is nicknamed Garp the Fist.
Apart from Sengoku, Garp is the other Marine who can use Supreme King Haki. He has been one of its most skilled users in the series, single-handedly facing the Blackbeard Pirates on Hachinosu Island. By using attacks such as Galaxy Impact, Garp is capable of sending shockwaves that intimidate the strongest of opponents.
Along with this, Garp can also use the other two forms of Haki, cleverly utilizing them in the heat of battle. What makes Garp so fearsome is that he is immensely strong even without his Haki. His raw strength allows him to pick up and launch cannonballs the size of ships.
As a result of his strength and spirit for true justice, he is respected by Marines and pirates alike. Most notably, Garp allied with the Roger Pirates to defeat the notorious Rocks Pirates during the God Valley Incident.
1) Monkey D. Luffy
It may not come as a surprise to many that the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, is the strongest One Piece character who doesn’t use weapons. Ever since the beginning, Luffy relied upon the flexibility of his Gomu Gomu no Mi to win battles.
By coming up with clever innovations with rubber attacks, he was even able to face off against Warlords. However, with rising threats, Luffy gradually began leveling up. He discovered his “Gear” transformations, beating Rob Lucci, Doflamingo, and several others along the way.
Most memorably, One Piece revealed the true nature of Luffy’s Devil Fruit. This showed how he possessed the powers of the Sun God Nika through his Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Hence, in a moment of unparalleled excitement, he transformed to Gear Five, beating the strongest creature, Kaido.
In addition to the many abilities of his Devil Fruit, Luffy can use all three forms of Haki. He can knock out 50,000 individuals with his Supreme King Haki, beat Logia powers using Armament Haki, and use Future Sight with Observation Haki. Consequently, he has been stunning both fans and characters with his accomplishments in every story arc of One Piece.
