One Piece features an expansive world with many species ranging from Fish-Men to Moon People. In its vast lore, the Giants are one of the most fascinating additions, captivating viewers through their large sizes and even larger significance to the storyline. While there have been memorable Giants from the earlier arcs, the latest Elbaph Arc finally brings the direct focus to the land of the Giants.

To help viewers know these species, we have curated a comprehensive guide on everything about the Giants in One Piece.

Who Are the Giants in One Piece?

The Giants, as the name suggests, are huge humanoid beings, often reaching heights of over 12 meters. Many also far surpass this, with Sanjuan Wolf being the tallest Giant at 180 meters.

Giants age much slower than most other species and are estimated to have three times the lifespan of a normal human. They are extremely prideful and possess immense strength and durability. At the same time, they are not strict about inter-species relationships. This is best seen through the recent bond between Scopper Gaban and Ripley.

While Giants are spread throughout the world, they are mostly associated with Elbaph, an island in the New World. This location is filled with enigmas and follows a Viking-like tradition. The people are deeply rooted in their religion, holding faith in the God Nika and believing in the Harley Texts.

Elbaph is a monarchy, with its final king being the beloved Harald. He was unfortunately killed by Loki and then the accursed prince was imprisoned in the Underworld.

The Different Groups of Giants in One Piece

The current One Piece storyline majorly focuses on the Giants from Elbaph. However, the series has introduced various other groups, proving the intricacy of its world. These include:

  • Elbaph Giants – The most well-known group originating from Elbaph. They are known as the Warriors of Elbaph for their moral code and strength. They have a sour relationship with Big Mom and the World Government.
  • Ancient Giants – The original conquerors of the New World who were much taller than normal Giants. Pure-blooded Ancient Giants no longer exist in the world.
  • Marine Giant Squad – The Marines have their own group of Giants, consisting of at least 8 officers. They notably guarded Ace’s execution platform during the Marineford War.
  • Numbers – Failed products of the World Government’s Gigantification experiments. They were meant to replicate the ancient beings but ended up losing their cognitive functions. Later, Kaido recruited them to his crew.
  • Other Groups – Apart from those already mentioned, there are unspecified groups of Giants in One Piece. For instance, the Yeti Cool Brothers’ affiliation was never revealed in the series.

Along with these, there are also several hybrids in One Piece. Wotans refer to a mix between Giants and Fish-Men, while Colon is the son of a Giant and a human.

One Piece has introduced several important Giants over its decades of airing. These are:

  • Dorry and Broggy – Captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates fighting for a century in Little Garden. They later assisted Luffy in Egghead before returning to Elbaph.
  • Hajrudin – The illegitimate son of King Harald of Elbaph and a representative of the new era of Giants. He joined the Straw Hat Grand Fleet after helping the protagonist in Dressrosa.
  • Oars – An infamous Ancient Giant who existed 500 years in the past. He was known for his unbelievable strength, due to which Gecko Moria resurrected him in Thriller Bark.
  • John Giant – A Vice Admiral of the Marines and the very first Giant to join their ranks. He fought Whitebeard in the Marineford War but was swiftly defeated.
  • Jaguar D. Saul – A former Vice Admiral Marine who left their ranks during the Ohara Incident. He saved Robin’s life and later reunited with her in Elbaph.
  • Sanjuan Wolf – The largest Giant, whose size is enhanced by his Deka Deka no Mi. He is one of Blackbeard’s Ten Titanic Captains.
  • Ripley – The lover of Scopper Gaban and a teacher at Walrus School in Elbaph. She is part of Elbaph’s renowned warriors.
  • Harald – The former King of Elbaph and father of Loki and Hajurdin. He was beloved for choosing peace over war, though ended up being killed by his son.
  • Loki – The prince of Elbaph who killed Harald for a mysterious Devil Fruit. Loki is one of Elbaph’s strongest residents, due to which it took several powerful warriors to finally imprison him.

The Role of the Giants in the Final Saga

The Elbaph Arc of One Piece has already become one of its most memorable storylines despite only starting recently. This can be attributed to the jaw-dropping reveals of mysteries such as Shamrock, the Harley Texts, and Scopper Gaban.

With all the central elements of One Piece on the same island, the Giants are undoubtedly set to play a huge role in the Final Saga. Currently, the World Government is actively trying to cause disarray within the ranks of the Giants and subdue them.

However, considering their powers and the intervention of the Straw Hat Pirates, it is unlikely for this to happen. On the contrary, many fans foresee an epic battle in the future between the Giants and the Celestial Dragons. The Warriors of Elbaph have been built up for a long time in the storyline, and watching them in action is something all fans look forward to.

Additionally, there are several theories regarding their connection to the Void Century and the Poneglyphs. Since the ancient mural depicted the truth of the Worlds, the Giants will probably be more ingrained into the plot as we move forward.
