Who is Atomic Samurai in One Punch Man? Explore the story of the series’ master swordsman, his powers, notable feats, and much more.
The vast world of One Punch Man is filled with overpowered Heroes, Villains, and monsters. However, few of them possess the gravitas and skill of Kamikaze, better known by his hero alias – Atomic Samurai, the master swordsman. Known for his expert swordsmanship, unwavering pride, and confidence in his abilities, Atomic Samurai is widely considered to be one of Earth’s mightiest heroes.
Although he didn’t exactly capture everyone’s hearts in his debut, Atomic Samurai’s monumental battle and character development in the Monster Association arc cemented him as a fan favorite. With that in mind, let us delve deeper into the character of Kamikaze, aka Atomic Samurai, and explore his powers, feats, and role in the overarching narrative.
Who Is Atomic Samurai in One Punch Man?
As mentioned earlier, Atomic Samurai, whose real name is Kamikaze, is currently an S-Class Rank 3 professional Hero of the Hero Association. As evident from his Hero name, he is a master swordsman who is widely recognized as one of the most powerful Heroes in the world. Additionally, he is a highly respected member of the Council of Swordmasters.
Unlike most Heroes who rely on brute force or flashy powers, Atomic Samurai relies on his discipline and technique. His swordsmanship is so incredibly fast and precise, that it appears almost “atomic” in action. He possesses the mindset of a warrior who values honor, skill, and respect for the strong above all, but he also has an arrogant and condescending personality.
Moreover, he has a habit of overestimating his own abilities and is often reckless at times, which leads to his downfall. He also possesses an unusual level of self-confidence, even after being thoroughly defeated and humiliated by Black Sperm, a Dragon-level Mysterious Being.
Atomic Samurai’s Role in One Punch Man
Atomic Samurai is one of the most interesting side characters in One Punch Man. Despite not making a good first impression in his debut, Atomic Samurai won everyone over with his development and outstanding battles in the Monster Association arc of the manga.
In spite of his arrogant personality, Atomic Samurai takes pride in mentoring the next generation of swordsmen. He has three disciples – Bushidrill, Iaian, and Okamaitachi, who deeply admire his teachings. He looks out for them as well, pushing them to do their best and overcome their weaknesses.
Atomic Samurai does have a great deal of confidence in his abilities, and for good reason. In a world dominated by superhuman strength and psychic abilities, he rose to the top with sheer skill and hard work. In a way, he presents a more human approach to strength, showcasing that even in a world full of superhumans and monsters, discipline and skill matter.
Atomic Samurai’s Powers and Abilities
As mentioned earlier, Atomic Samurai is an S-Class Rank 3 Hero, whose mastery over swords earned him the title of the world’s strongest swordsman. As a top Hero who is considered to be in the same league as Bang, Tatsumaki, and Blast. Atomic Samurai possesses superhuman strength and was capable of using a toothpick to cut down his opponent. However, his most impressive physical ability lies in his speed and reflexes.
With his inhuman levels of speed, Atomic Samurai slices down his opponents in the blink of an eye. In fact, he is so incredibly fast that even Speed-o’-Sound Sonic wasn’t able to perceive his attacks. The most impressive display of his speed was perhaps during his fight against Black Sperm, where he cut down a large number of the monster’s clones in rapid succession.
There is also a legend surrounding Atomic Samurai, which states that he can cut down 100 opponents with each strike. In his signature attack, the Atomic Slash, he performs over 100 slashes with his sword within a second, leaving his opponents in tiny bits and pieces. He is also extremely resilient, as he was able to survive the onslaught of Black Sperm, a Dragon-level Mysterious Being.
Atomic Samurai’s Notable Feats in One Punch Man
Despite not being a major recurring character, Atomic Samurai has displayed several impressive feats that proves his worth as a top-ranked S-Class Hero. However, he displayed his most impressive feat during the Monster Association arc, where he was able to momentarily overpower both Homeless Emperor and Golden Sperm, two of the Monster Association’s strongest members by wielding the Sun Blade.
During his battle against Black Sperm, Atomic Samurai displayed incredible speed by slicing hundreds of the monster’s clones in rapid succession. Although he ended up losing the bout, he managed to escape with his life even after sustaining grave injuries at the hands of the Dragon-level Mysterious Being.
As mentioned earlier, he is capable of performing 100 sword strikes within a single second and can cut down multiple enemies before they can even react. His strength is nothing to scoff at either, given that he was once able to cut down a monster with a single toothpick.
Atomic Samurai’s Character Growth in One Punch Man
In his first appearance, Atomic Samurai came off as an arrogant and condescending individual, who had an unnatural level of confidence in himself. He looked down upon and refused to acknowledge those weaker than him, having respect only for the strong. He also hates being looked down upon, as evident when he almost lost his temper when Sweet Mask called him weak.
However, a significant amount of growth in his character took place during the Monster Association arc. When he first came across Black Sperm, he underestimated the monster due to its appearance. Atomic Samurai, confident that this fight would be the same as his previous fights, tried to use his speed to his advantage once more but was instantly humbled. This is because Black Sperm is a monster that can multiply into endless versions of itself, making it the worst possible opponent for someone like Atomic Samurai.
By the end of the arc, Atomic Samurai became less arrogant and even started getting along with his fellow S-Class Heroes. His battle against Black Sperm likely shook his approach of disregarding those weaker than him, especially due to the humiliation he suffered at the hands of the monster. That said, Atomic Samurai managed to redeem himself by the end of the arc, cementing himself as a massive favorite among fans.
Conclusion
Atomic Samurai’s character showcased a visible change by the end of the Monster Association arc. His battle against Black Sperm reminded him that there was always room for improvement and that he isn’t above learning from his mistakes. As the series moves forward, it will certainly be exciting to witness his character evolve further.
