Who is Enmu in Demon Slayer? Taking a look at the strongest Lower Moon demon’s abilities and feats in the manga

The Demon Slayer series is one of the most popular modern Shonen titles today. It’s hard to have a conversation about impactful character writing without bringing up Demon Slayer.
The manga is set in a world containing hundreds of thousands of demons. However, there are some who are more prominent than others. Those who have watched the initial parts of the series might have heard of Enmu.
Kibutsuji Muzan, the most powerful demon and the main antagonist of the series, created 12 incredibly powerful demons and bifurcated them. The weaker 6 were called the Lower Moons and the stronger 6 were called the Upper Moons. These 12 demons had the highest concentration of Muzan’s blood, making them far more powerful than every other demon present in the series.
Enmu is one of the Lower Moon Demons. He is an interesting character with an odd personality. Let’s take a closer look at Enmu’s introduction to the series, his abilities as well as his most prominent feats in the animanga series.
When Was Enmu Introduced in Demon Slayer?

Enmu first appeared in Demon Slayer after Rui’s death. The latter was ranked fifth among all the Lower Moon demons. Giyu Tomioka killed Rui, and this led to an emergency meeting. Kibutsuji Muzan summoned every Lower Moon demon that remained.
These demons made their way to the Infinity Castle, and that’s when Enmu first made his appearance in the animanga series. This interaction showcased just how expendable these demons were. Muzan literally killed 4 out of the 5 remaining Lower Moon demons. However, Enmu was spared because he was the only one who didn’t show any fear of death. In fact, Enmu considered it an honor to die by Muzan’s hands.
That’s also when the Demon King decided to give Enmu more of his blood and increase his powers as a demon. Enmu was the most powerful Lower Moon demon in the anime. Additionally, his powers grew multifold after his interaction with Muzan and receiving his blood. This not only improved his physical abilities, but also enhanced his Blood Demon Art.
Enmu’s Abilities and Feats in Demon Slayer

Enmu has a unique fighting ability that relies on Somnokinesis. This is when the user relies on abilities that manipulate the victim in their sleep. Enmu’s Blood Demon Art quite literally puts people to sleep and makes them completely vulnerable. This is why Kyojuro Rengoku was forced to investigate the Mugen Train.
People started to disappear on this train, and it was because of Enmu’s abilities. Enmu was so powerful that it required the Flame Hashira and other demon hunters’ team effort to take him down. While he uses this unique technique to render people unconscious, he is quite proficient in hand-to-hand combat as well.
Tanjiro Kamado was unable to take him down initially. Enmu also has the ability to manipulate his flesh and absorb various inanimate objects. In fact, he fused himself to the Mugen Train. Furthermore, Enmu used his blood and mixed it with ink that was untraceable. This ink would be present on the ticket, which would induce sleep.
Additionally, he would be able to enter people’s dreams and cripple them. This was an effective way of killing people in the Demon Slayer series. Enmu would create bespoke dreams that were utopian in nature. People would refuse to leave the dream world and that’s how he would cripple them.
Enmu’s Fate in Demon Slayer

Fans would be delighted to note that Rengoku and other demon hunters defeated Enmu in Demon Slayer. For some reason, Tanjiro couldn’t strike Enmu and he struggled to land hits. However, they soon realized that Enmu was fused with the train. This caused a great deal of concern because the train cabin resembled the inside of a being. The passengers who were asleep needed to be protected.
That’s where Rengoku, Nezuko, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu were crucial since they fended off any appendages that sprouted from Enmu’s flesh. Soon, the group focused on locating his nape. The engine room contained his neck, and they managed to decapitate him. Enmu died with a smile on his face. He seemed like the type of demon who didn’t care about dying.
Enmu’s Role in Demon Slayer

Enmu took on the role of a minor antagonist in the animanga series. He wasn’t all that important in the grand scheme of things. However, he was instrumental in bringing out Rengoku’s abilities. The Flame Hashira displayed a portion of his techniques during their fight against the Lower Moon demon. Furthermore, Enmu presented the perfect amount of build-up to the fight against Akaza.
That’s when Rengoku showed his true potential and put his life on the line to save innocent passengers. Rengoku proceeded to die moments later. This was a turning point for Tanjiro, and he swore to become a much stronger fighter. Consequently, we could see Rengoku’s impact on Tanjiro even after his death. Enmu was a typical maniacal villain who was thwarted rather easily in Demon Slayer.
Conclusion
Enmu was the strongest Lower Moon demon in the anime series. He had a unique fighting style that utilized people’s sleep and dreams. His technique was quite efficient. However, it wasn’t enough to kill a Hashira as well as other demon hunters who were present in the train. His techniques felt under-utilized.
That being said, he killed hundreds of people off-screen. This shows Enmu’s strength and overall combat abilities as a demon in the animanga series. Rengoku and his team managed to kill him without taking too much damage.
