Every tool is used for certain purposes, allowing players to find hidden caches, explore better, and even disarm the alarms and turrets. All of these interactions are possible with the use of the corresponding tool.

The three main tools in Atomfall are a Metal Detector, a Torch, and a Signal Redirector. Acquiring each of these tools occupies a special slot in the inventory. If you open the backpack, you will be able to see the slots for the tools. Fortunately, these tools don’t take any space in the actual inventory. Moreover, similar to the weapons in the game, the tools do not have any durability mechanic. It means you can use them freely without worrying to repair or charge them.

1. Metal Detector

During the exploration, if you are near a location of any hidden cache, a metal detector icon will pop up on the bottom left corner of the screen. Press the Triangle (PS5) button whenever the icon pops up to quickly equip the Metal Detector.

Hold down the Aim button to start locating, and you will hear beeping. Moreover, if you notice the metal detector, the needle on the top will move either right or left. If you are going in the wrong direction, the needle will move to the left side. If you are going in the correct direction, the needle will move to the right side. If you go to a stream location at 29.1 E, 73.9 N coordinates, you will see a body with a Metal Detector beside it. This location is in Slatten Dale, the first map of the quarantine zone. It means you can get it shortly after getting out of the initial bunker. You can easily get to this location without engaging with any Outlaw or enemy.

Another method to get the Metal Detector is to purchase it from the traders. If you haven’t collected the Metal Detector from the body, Molly Jowett and Reg Stansfield traders will offer to barter the Metal Detector. It is an expensive way to get it, but if you have valuable items, then you can get it from the traders.

NOTE: If you have acquired the Metal Detector from the primary location, the traders will not offer the Metal Detector.

2. Torch

Moreover, it is not a regular flashlight as it makes the lootable items glow. This mechanic helps you greatly in finding missable loot. You can quickly equip the Torch by pressing the Triangle (PS5) button at any time. Pressing the R2 or Attack action button will let you turn on/off the flashlight. Head down the staircase and go inside the house on the right. Go to the back side of the ground floor of the house, and you will see a Torch on the wooden platform beside a shelf.

Furthermore, if you haven’t found the torch early, go to the Interchange entrance in Slatten Dale, and you will find it on the ground. However, it is only possible if you haven’t found the Torch yet. Moreover, you can also barter it from the merchants in the quarantine zone.

3. Signal Redirector

The Signal Redirector is the final main tool in Atomfall and probably the most crucial one. It is because it is required for progressing the main story of the game. Without the Signal Redirector, players cannot progress, as it is used to power up the Central Processor in the Interchange. The use of the Signal Redirector is simple, you use it to hack and redirect a power source. It helps you in unlocking controllable doors, activating/deactivating turrets, disarming alarms, and more.

Similar to the Metal Detector, if you are near any console or a signal, you will see a pop-up on the screen. Press the respective button to equip the Signal Redirector. If you look at the screen of the device, you will see a bar move as you move the device. Moving the device to find a console will give you a beeping sound, confirming that the console or signal is hackable. Moreover, it will also highlight the console on your screen. After that, all you have to do is to press the respective button to “Hack” action to redirect the signal. However, you must be in range of the signal to hack it.

Make your way to the back of the security room to find the Signal Redirector on a shelf.

Moreover, you can also find it in a Windfall Crate. You can find this crate in the Protocol Field Station bunker in Skethermoor at 41.3E, 74.9N coordinates. However, before you can get it, you will have to find the Windfall Key,which you can get from a body in the Protocol Workshop bunker in Skethermoor at 38.0E, 77.4N coordinates.
