Combat Mechanics in Enshrouded Explained

How Combat Works in Enshrouded
Best Combat guide Tips and Tricks in Enshrouded

Enshrouded offers unique combat mechanics, unlike other survival games. Combat is an intricate system that merges fluid action mechanics with strategic depth. Class trees are crucial in defining the type of Enshrouded combat mechanics you want to utilize against foes along with the skills. The warrior class is based on melee or close-range combat with physical damage while the Ranger class is based on magical damage and long-range combat.

Light attacks are ideal for quick damage or maintaining pressure and heavier attacks deal higher damage or break enemy defenses. Blocking and Parrying is one of the most crucial core mechanics of combat in Enshrouded. Weapons and shields allow blocking to reduce incoming damage. The game offers foes with AI that adapt not just to your skill level, but also to your combat style. Selecting weapons, spells, and abilities allows you to lead a highly personalized approach to battles. Blocking an attack costs stamina and once depleted, attacks cannot be blocked anymore. With the right timing, you can Parry enemy attacks.

It is best to focus on extensive preparations such as resting and cooking various foods by using recipes as well as potions to gain an advantage in the battle. You will encounter enemy factions such as fell scavengers, wild beasts, and wildlife. Each one of them can be found in the unique areas of the game. Defeating each enemy requires you to use the best strategies without taking much damage.

Here are all the tips and tricks you need to know while fighting enemies in our combat guide in Enshrouded.

1) Weapon Types for Melee player

At the most basic level, you have one-handed and two-handed weapons as a melee player. A melee weapon has three standard damage types cutting piercing, and blunt. Enemies all have different resistances to these types of damage, so having a combination of weapons with different damage types is worthwhile. You could also find a weapon with poison, fire, ice, shroud, and shock damage. These are elemental effects that further increase your damage capabilities. For example, Acid Cleaver deals cutting and poison damage.

When fighting enemies, you’ll notice that with each hit some scrolling combat text will appear and that’ll be your indication whether the attack you’re using is effective or not. If you see a word effective then some aspect of your weapon is dealing higher than average damage. If you see Resisted then some aspect of your weapon is dealing lower than average. Because weapons can have multiple damage types it’s tough to know exactly what type of damage is strong or weak.  You have to do some trial and error to really hone in on what’s effective.

2) Maintain Stamina & other stats as a Melee player.

The best way to get stamina is by having a rested buff. You can most easily get this by building a base and making sure you have some sort of furniture inside. This increases the comfort level, thus extending the rested buff. If you don’t have the rested buff, don’t go exploring, then don’t go exploring or in combat. The amount of time you will waste having to wait for your stamina to recharge and the disadvantage you will have in combat, just isn’t worth it. Make sure you have the right food buffs for your play style. Not just any food buffs but the right ones. If you’re melee-focused, then you’ll need some cooked meat. This increases your Constitution which gives you plus 50 health per point.

You’ll also need food that increases your other supporting stat,s including stamina. Once you unlock the farmer, we recommend you start creating Chamomile Tea. It gives you passive Health Regeneration and increases your endurance by 2, giving you plus 20 to stamina. The other food we recommend early on is hazelnuts, which are easy to find in Revelwood. Look for these trees here and grab a handful with each interaction. With each use, you’ll gain plus three to strength, equating to 15 melee damage.

3) Block and Parry

Block and Parry is a crucial aspect for every melee player out there. Like with most Parry systems, timing is everything and Enshrouded does have an indicator for when you should Parry. Most enemy attacks not all but most will glow with a bit of an indication that it’s time to Parry. This is a great way to get your bearing with the system but after a bit of practice, you’ll be a Parry machine and don’t need the indication. With each successful Parry, you’ll add to the enemy’s stun bar under their health bar. Once filled, the enemy will become overpowered and incapacitated. If you specialize in merciless attacks, you can kill them that much quicker.

At any time the enemy is blocking, you should be laying in with attacks. The more you attack during the block the more stun damage you do. A combination of Parry and attacks during a block will ultimately net you the same result. This is the best way to kill any foes in the game. If you’re not confident in your ability to Parry then that’s fine, just block. With a good shield proper buffs and the right equipment, you can hold down the block button and not take any damage. If this is your preferred style then it’s a game of cat and mouse. Block incoming damage and then weave in your offense when the enemy is done. Land a few attacks and then bring the shield back up. This is the safest way to deal damage, especially against tougher enemies.

4) Ranged Damage

You’ll want to focus on critical hit damage. Bows have the unique ability to headshot or skillshot as it’s called in the game. Most enemies have a weak point usually the head and if you manage to land your shots, then you’ll deal more damage. Having crit damage means the times that you’ll hit those weak points and crit will result in massive damage. Unlike melee weapons, the bow itself doesn’t deal a specific type of damage. However, depending on the rarity they do have important bonuses.

The best weapon game weapon is the Fell Commander Bow, which, when leveled up, has great bonuses. It synergizes perfectly with a full-range build. When it comes to the type of damage, you deal when using a ranged weapon. You need to look at the arrows.

At first, you will be able to craft a Wooden Arrow. This deals piercing damage and they’re nothing more than a sharpened stick. You can create a wide array of projectiles and more materials once you unlock the hunter NPS. You will notice that each arrow deals different types of damage as your options expand. Most are piercing and some have cutting and poison damage. Eventually, you’ll be able to make Special Arrows, which gives you even more flexibility during combat. No Brainer is the best arrow that we recommend you craft in Enshrouded.

5) Maintain Stats for Ranged Gameplay

Dexterity is your primary damage enhancer, and for each point in that stat, you’ll gain plus 5% range damage. You need any food that increases Dexterity such as Vegetable Puree. Once you’ve rescued the farmer NPC, built the fireplace in your base, and looted a Forest Beast within Revelwood, this is unlocked. An old Dexterity food will increase your Dexterity stats. Unfortunately, you can’t stack dexterity buffs, which could be ideal, but the game doesn’t allow you to do that. However, it’s still worthwhile to increase your endurance in the Constitution. There’s nothing wrong with having more HP and more stamina even if those things are not the major factor in ranged gameplay.

6) Exploiting the Enemy’s weaknesses

Ranged gameplay isn’t complicated; you just need to ensure you have the right buffs and a healthy supply of arrows. You can take a talent like Eagle Eye If you want that extra zoom. The key during combat is identifying the weak spot of an enemy. Every enemy is different and as a ranged-focused player, your job is to deal the most damage possible. You can deal backstab damage with range weapons, so if you’re playing in a group, this is just as good as finding the weak spot.

Keep your head on a swivel as enemies may shift their attention to different group members. Use the terrain to your advantage. There’s so much verticality within Enshrouded that it’s easy to jump onto a roof. Land a well-placed range shoot from your perch, and that’s one less enemy you have to deal with. There’s no reason to fight in melee if your skill points are in the range tree. Just run away. Establish some distance between you and your enemies and let the arrow fly.

7) Stats are crucial For Magic Player.

Intelligence is the most important stat as a Magic player as each stat grants you plus 5% magic damage. Intelligence also synergizes with the various auras that magic users can access via the skill tree. Utilizing the Water Aura, which heals a group passively over time, is enhanced further the more points you have in Intelligence. The same can be said for the Radiant Aura, which damages all enemies within a radius.

A secondary stat you need to consider is Spirit which increases your Mana pool by 20 for each point. This doesn’t increase your Mana regen but your Maximum Mana. You can’t also underestimate the Constitution if you’re building for magic. The armor you will have access to is much less protective than that of melee-focused players. Having more constitution and a bigger health pool could save your life. Food is also a big factor here and you do have a few extra options. Cook the Roasted Azure Russula to gain plus three intelligence for 25 minutes. Pick rolling flowers and grow them back at your base in a little garden. One flower will net you 10 seedlings which you can plant and cultivate for a huge stockpile of spirit food.

8) Equip the Best Magic Weapons

Equip the best magic weapons as things are different here in a magic world. One of the coolest aspects of Enshrouded is that you can use Wands which act as standard weapons as well as Stabs. The combination is powerful and drastically enhanced if you build around their strengths. A good Wand has high attack speed and overcharge value, which dictate the percentage of your Wand’s attacks dealing random spikes of higher damage.

Certain enemies are weak to fire, ice, shock, and knowing which are weak to what and having the appropriate elemental wand ready to go is your key to success. For instance, the fuzzy bear enemies, the Vuka are weak to fire. With a fire wand and the right firebase skills, you can defeat them with a few hits. There are two skills you should always take if you plan to use Wands and both are in the battle mage tree. Wand Master gives you a 30% chance to fire a second projectile.

9) Learn How to Heal

You can combine a healing potion and healing over time when it comes to healing in Enshrouded. Consumables like Bandage and strawberry add heals over time which slowly regenerate health.  The burst heals via a health potion and gives a flood of health instantly and nothing over time.  You can front-load heals over time before combat to keep your health high while taking damage.

The advantage of health potions is they are consumed instantly without an animation.  Berries and Bandages have a small animation window, making your character vulnerable to attack while eating.  Thus, running away to eat or preparing your food before a fight and front load is recommended.

10) Keep Distance in Combat

Much like with the range damage, your goal as a magic user is to maintain distance from powerful foes. When dealing magic damage, your goal should be to keep a healthy distance between you and your enemies. Use the terrain to your advantage and avoid fighting near the danger. If you try to be a hero against the powerful enemy, then you may end up dying in combat. Maintaining a safe distance allows you to deal decent damage and keep your character away from any kind of hit from the enemy.
