Despite being a ‘hero shooter,’ Marvel Rivals features several melee heroes. Here are the best 5 that you can practice as your main.
For a hero shooter, Marvel Rivals features a lot of variety in their 33-hero roster. Not only in terms of the lore of a character, but the playstyle also differs greatly enough to make us feel like the Earth’s mightiest heroes.
The hit method of each character is also different. While some are “hitscan,” others are “projectile” characters. These terms are used for those who have ranged attacks. As for melee characters, they need to land their hits to deal damage but can’t be called “projectile” in any way.
You might think that in a game that lets other characters shoot from a distance, melee characters are at a disadvantage. However, that can’t be far from the truth. The list below contains some of the best melee heroes in Marvel Rivals, in no specific order:
- Iron Fist
- Wolverine
- Black Panther
- Hulk
- Spider-Man
Kindly note that the said list is subjective to the writer’s opinion, and your experience may differ. Without any ranking, the details for each of these characters are written below:
1. Iron Fist
Putting Iron Fist on this list is a no-brainer. He may be a good character but there are ways to counter him. On a side note, don’t doubt his abilities when you meet him in close quarters. As Black Widow or Hawkeye, you might spot him and eliminate him from a distance. But he better not find you alone next time.
Iron Fist has high DPS and does not require reloading his punches for obvious reasons. Moreover, he is agile and has a small cooldown time for abilities that can deal a lot of damage to an individual character.
2. Wolverine
While he is not a Vanguard, you will find Wolverine usually at the frontlines, helping out his friendly tanks by delivering good DPS. His abilities are mainly focused on letting him fight for longer than he would be able to. Even if you don’t know how to play as him, Logan is a fun character to select in a match.
He doesn’t have a lot of health, unfortunately, and not putting his passive regen in the game is a miss in my opinion that NetEase should fix in coming updates. However, don’t forget that he is one of the few melee characters who can bring down flying heroes with his diving and partnered-up curveball throw with Hulk.
3. Black Panther
If you wanted to combine the agility of Iron Fist in close quarters and amp up the DPS even further, you would get Black Panther. The king of Wakanda doesn’t take treason lightly. He will run past you using his dashes and claw strikes and will knock you out quickly if you are a Vanguard on low health or a Duelist or Strategist with regular HP.
He also has a ranged ability of being able to throw two spears consecutively without cooldowns. But as King T’Challa, you will mainly rely on your melee attacks against the enemy. And trust me, it’s reliable once you practice your combos enough.

4. Hulk
Bruce Banner has finally figured out how to turn into The Hulk at will. He is still not in control in his big, bad green form, but let’s consider it good progress. We shall not discuss Banner further because he deals ranged damage using his gun. Hulk, on the other hand, relies on melee attacks only, except for abilities like the Gamma Burst.
Loki’s least favorite Avenger is a Vanguard and has a tanky health of 800, thanks to the Seasonal Buff he has received until S0 is on. However, if you happen to have his Ultimate ready and are dying on the battlefield, you can transform into Monster Hulk with a whopping 1400 HP!
5. Spider-Man
“Don’t mess with the amazing Spider-Man!” This is the last thing most players hear before locking in while playing Marvel Rivals. There’s a reason why a good Spider-Man is one of the most feared characters in a match. And I specifically say a ‘good Spider-Man’ because he is one of the toughest characters to master.
It is fair because he is also one of the best melee heroes in Marvel Rivals. Spider-Man can swing around the map, wall crawl, and wall run as part of his traversal techniques alone. Combined with his decent DPS, he is a deadly foe to be around. Those who practice his combos enough are difficult to catch in a match because Peter Parker is too difficult to corner.
There are more melee characters who are incredible on their own and for those who play as them. However, we have found this particular bunch to be troublesome almost always. What do you think?
