Things can get tricky when it comes to the best Protagonist build in Atlus’s new JRPG, Metaphor ReFantazio. The amount of options that players have can leave them confused about the “best” choice. Of course, there is no correct answer to this. There can’t be just one “best” build when it comes to the Protagonist and his party members. The build you choose should suit your playstyle and circumstances.

Best Archetypes and Inherited Skills
This can be subjective, but we think that all parties need at least one permanent Mage. This is why it’s best to let the Protagonist get skilled as the Mage Archetype, which will later on become the Wizard. Using Fire, Ice, Wind, and Electric attacks can prove useful against enemies with those weaknesses. You can inherit the Cyc skill from the Seeker Archetype as well. This will allow you to have control over the Wind element, making the Protagonist the perfect Mage.
If you instead wish to focus on strength, the Brawler Archetype would be your best friend. This is because the Warrior and the Knight already have Slash and Pierce skills. So, having a ‘Striking’ Archetype on your team will do you good and cover all the varied physical attacks. Pair this with the ‘Medi’ inherited skill from the Healer Archetype for best results.
Best Protagonist Stats
Hulkenberg and Strohl are two party members who already have an advantage when it comes to physical stats. So, if you wish to invest your time and points in a stat, try leveling up the Magic stat. This will keep things balanced, while the other two followers work on their physical stats.
So, if the Protagonist excels in the Magic stat, it will allow you to efficiently use the magical Archetype we discussed above. That being said, this is entirely your call. If you have invested in the physical stats already, select the Brawler as your main build.
Not all Archetypes will be suitable for all parts of the game. It’s important to adapt to the changes and upgrade your build when the game demands better from you.
Best Protagonist Build in Early and Late Game
- Early Game: If the strength stat resonates with you, you can go with the Brawler build at the beginning of the game. It has its perks when used alongside companions like Strohl and Hulkenberg. On the other hand, if you wish to stick to magic, you can start working with the Mage or the Seeker Archetypes. This will help you exploit elemental weaknesses.
- Late Game: The mid-game won’t require many changes, but you will have to introduce a new strategy in the end game. By the final quarter, you will have unlocked the Prince Archetype via story quests, and it will bring some great physical skills to the table. As for the magical playstyle, you can go for the Elemental Master, which will give you an edge over your enemies in battle since you will have excellent crowd-control abilities.
